I've known about this place for a while. But up until recently the guy didn't want to sell anything. He doesn't want to sell the Ford stuff if he can help it, but the other makes seem to be easier to get him to let go of. These pics are just what you can see from the road. I'm going back next week to talk to him some more and see if he'll show me the rest of the stuff and let me take some pics of all of it. Just thought I'd share .

Looks like a gold mine...or silver at least. Stashes of old iron like that are getting fewer and fewer...is that a '35 or '36 3-window coupe behind the shoebox with the blue tarp over the window??

OK guys I guess there is a lot of interest in this place. The guy is real nice and I have no problems with helping put you guys in touch with him, I can show or give directions, all I ask is that you guys give me a chance to talk to him again and let him know what is going on. I really don't want to piss him off. I want him to be cool about people coming by to check the stuff out. I'm usually in my shop all day Sat and Sun and have no problems with taking anyone out there to see it. I just don't want to screw up what could be a really good thing. I've also got a couple lines on some other stashes that aren't to far from Raleigh (mostly on the South side of town). Like I said earlier I am going out there again next weekend and am going to try and let me walk back into his property and take more pics. What you see is only what is visable from the road.

zman
12-13-2003, 10:44 PM
Oh and I did see some 28-31 coupes and also have a line on a where a few others are. I tried following up on 2 29' pick-ups today and a 38 Packard, but they turned out to be gone. If any of you guys want to get together about maybe trying a bulk purchase from the guy. I'd be down with that. But also like I said "he does not like to let the Ford stuff go". I'm hoping I can find a 30's Buick or Chevy in the back part of his property. Let me know what you guys think. If need be email me directly (it's in my profile).

hey zman, i know some guys from raliegh, so who the hell are you? I just wanna make sure I"m not talking to somebody I already know, and just don't know it. That's happened to me before on here. I could probaly make arrangements to come up there next weekend to go walk the property lines too...heh. I know of some things I might could give details on too if I were so inclined. They're places that I HAVE to go to though, cos the man doesn't want people to find out about all hsi crap cos he's scared of the county people making him get rid of it.

I will try and answer all questions I can. Like I said I'm trying to go back out there next weekend (weather permitting) and take some more pics, ask him some questions, try to get more of a rapport with the guy. I've known about this place for a while and have heard stories of all kinds of people getting turned away by the guy. I'm trying to develop a better situation for the long haul than just get a car I want and run.

I probably know the same guys. I was in a car club with a bunch of guys
down here for a while, now they're a different club. I have a pretty big
shop out back of my house. Actually just put in a lift a couple of weeks
ago. Got a plasma cutter yesterday. Sometimes I'm not the most social guy
in the world (I don't go out to the bars much anymore, especially the
trendy crowded ones) I prefer to hang out with the old lady and work on my
own stuff. You can check out the links to my site
http://www.rod-o-rama.com to see what I've been doing. It's not that upto
date but it's there.

That looks like a guy who really cares about his junk. Not just one of those "I'm gonna restore it someday" pricks. Most prople don't take the time to mow and trim around their old cars.

I can see myself having a place like that when I get old.

It is for sale, though. Anybody up for a career change?

Is that place half way between Raliegh an Apex? I think I've seen it on the way to the outer banks... cant see much from the road if I remember correctly... think I recognize the black full size in one of the pics.

Kinda at a corner with a service station of sorts?

I'll have to ride down an take a look an see if its the same place... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

no, but if the place your talking about is the one I think, it's gone, auctioned everything off. I have a friend who got a '59 Fairlane for $40. complete..

do you remember the name or what road it was on? Cary and Apex but up against each other and Cary has been annexing like crazy. So you really don't have any open space between Raleigh and Apex anymore. There was also one over off of Tryon Rd. that is gone, it wasn't a salvage yard but someones personal stash, it disappeared and now theres a damn yuppie development there.

Cant recall exactly where it is... south side, maybe on one of the loops... I would have been riding through that side tomorrow had it not been for some traffic problems at the other end of the destination. Sigh.

... If I see it again I'll jot down the road... I dont have room for another project so I prolly wont stop http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Zman, Stone...

Who are you guys? I'm right outside Raleigh...

I just saw this (busy doesn't begin to describe me these days...).

Zman, if that guy's in Clayton, he's a couple miles from my house, and I'm glad he's finally selling some stuff.

I live right outside Raleigh and Garner. Got a pretty decent size shop outback of my house (2500 sq. ft.). Just put a lift in about a month ago. Just picked up a plasma cutter over the weekend and a parts washer. Got a line on some other goodies. But i pretty much got everything I need now to finish up my '57 Buick and '59 Pick-up. If your ever free on the weekend drop me line and we can hook up. I've also finally got the heat working in the shop, just gotta fill the propane tank and I'll be good to go for the winter.

If it's Delmar, yeah. He's anice guy but a little skittish about his stuff. he's starting to sell the stuff that's not Ford. But will actually talk about maybe selling some of that stuff. I've also been chasing down another lead on some A's and T's a little farther out near 4-oaks. I barely missed some stuff out the west side of Smithfield. I've also got a line on some stuff down in Harnett County. If you've ever tried to chase this stuff down you know only 1 in 40 ever turn out to be worth chasing down. But I guess I'm a glutton.

Yeah, I couldn't remember his name...it's a rip I'm flat broke...he had a Willys gasser several months back that showed a LOT of promise!

I'll try hookin' up with you after Christmas, sometime...maybe we'll grab a burger at Grill '57.

If your heading west on 64 away from night'n dale (dunno proper speelin...) The place I'm talking about is on the right hand side of the road about 5 miles from the edge of the town.

Got a blue fendered pickup out front and cars scatterd everywhere. I didnt have a chance to stop in an see if anythings for sale... but its got an office, think its an Auto body shop of some sort.

Its right beside a boat dealership if I remember correctly.

That should putcha on the right track, it for sure is on 64 east! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That sounds like Rigsbee's, I believe that one belongs to Irvin, cool old guy. His brother has a salvage yard over on the other side of Apex from me. I used to buy race gas from Irvin when I was still roadracing m/c's. He's got a real sweet shop at his house. Still races stock cars at Wake County Speedway. "likes to whup up on the young uns" His words. IF it is indeed his yard, everything is for sale. He had some interesteing stuff in there the last time I was there. I probably need to go by since I haven't talked to him in a while.

Just an update. Didn't make it out this past weekend, but am going out there this weekend. A friend of mine is going with me. He actually bought a '62 Biscayne from him and has a deal to buy a '62 Impala from him. So it should make things a little easier. Also over the weekend went to a X-mas party at one of my wifes relatives, seems he's related to my wifes side of the family in some way, all I remember is something about Grant and Eunice and the Harnett county Lee's and the Coats. I don't know but I'm gonna look into it a little more. Get me family discount.
