Maybe I'll just make plexiglass covers, fill with water and keep exotic fish in each wheel...

pull the coffin out, fill THAT bit wit water and keep reef sharks in there.
On rod runs you could charge kiddies to throw bait in .fun for all.

Ever thought about maybe pwder-coating the rim (w/ maybe a polised lip, not too expensive) since there's lots of nice metallic finshes in gloss, semi, and flat. Cheaper than polishing and would compliment the cleaner look of yer restored rod. Easy to maintain too I bet! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

not a bad idea but just bead blasting them would look allright and since they are aluminum and not magnesium they will hold the look alot longer so i would forgo the WD40. maybe try your had at polishing them yourself. email POLISHER and get his free E-booklet on how to polish. great info. it would be alot of work but worth it in the money saved. Andy'sduece also polished his own wheels (American 5 spokes) so email him and ask how he did it. just a thought but maybe leave the center blasted and polish the lip yourself for a little contrast.

Whatsamatter? You don't have a drill or a dremel with a small buffing pad, and some Mother's? Why can't you get a full polish? Sounds like too lazy to mount plexiglass!

A drill with a buffing pad? I'm not lookin to spend the next 5 years pickin away at them! They need the proper different grit wheels etc. to get them polished. It costs a fortune up here to have it done, and I've done it before by hand and it took FOREVER. Yer welcome to c'mon over with your drill and show me how it's done though... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You buildin a show car? I've even gotten decent results with my buffer before in reasonable time. Fairly nice, beats Scabby wheels. I'm with you though, to do a thorough job takes loadsa time, but what doesn't?

Remember the treatment that was discussed in a carb reconditioning post a while back? I wonder how the Aloid coating would look on a mag-aluminum alloy? How close to DOW-7 would it look? Would it damage the magnesium?

Anyone want to test it?

Ansen sprints, eh? If your brake drums aren't too big, you can turn 'em around backwards and everybody will wonder what kinda wheels they are. A good bead blasting helps to seal the pores in the aluminum and they'll stay a silvery color without buffing and polishing all the time. I did that to a pair of pseudo Americans and they looked new for the several years I owned them with a simple wash job occasionally.

I polished the torque thrust D's on my sedan. I used my air compressor and different grit wheels to get the gray paint off and smooth the rims for polishing. Get a truck 22in. rim,a 3 ft. section of 3 in. pipe and a flat plate for the top to mount the 1 1/2 horse electric motor. Weld it all together and VOILA!!!! Polishing unit you can move around. Buy a brown and white bar of polishing compounds and get to work!!!Oh yeah, get a couple of yellow pads for smoothing and a couple of white pads for the final polishing. It's a bit of a dirty job but I polished my wheels, my stainless exhaust system, the intake manifold and many other parts. You just buy different compounds and wheels for aluminum or stainless. If you want fast and cheap have the wheels plastic bead blasted and then shoot clear coat on 'em.
My 15x10 rims took me 8 hours apeice and the 15x6 were about 6 hours apeice...only about two weekends worth of work. You make the choice...it's your car. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Awesome that's what I was looking for. I'd be cool to have them polished, maybe I'll look in building a jig like your idea. Cheers.

my odd sense of humour assumed you were taking the piss out of tech week, due to the rather silly car you posted the pic of, and your first reply.
not trying to offend, just a misjudge on my part.sorry.
