i gotta question about the ford 3spd overdrive transmissions...the od soleniod...how many years was it used? do later year solenoids work in them? and why the HELL are they so Freakin expensive? my merc has one on it, but i never hooked it up because it didn't look like it worked..anyway going to use the od transmission and wanted to know.. thanks, tok

I don't know years and such, but my stude has the same overdrive set up. If you have a solenoid that doesn't work, take it apart. Inside there is a primative fusable link that usually gets burned out...if you can fix that, it will most likely work again. 99.436% of the time, the coils don't burn out...

Like how expensive are those solenoids where you're looking, Tokyo? I just picked up a couple at $10 apiece for my OD, and could have got more for the sme price. These were used, untested 6 volt ones, however, that an old Ford nut wouldn't let go of til the day he died. Now his kids can't wait to get rid of those dirty old things.

It seems like I've heard that most of the 6v solenoids were killed because of people running 12v systems. It also seems that I heard once that you can use a 12v A/C solenoid in place of that one.
Don't quote me on either, unless you find out it is right.

WEll,, the times that i search ebay for em..the are always "rebuilt" with a high reserve like 80 bucks.. some higher.
It is good to hear that they can be fixed easy. that boosts my spirit. thanks guys..

I had a guy trying to sell me one for $150 last summer. He was a T Bird Restorer, so I'm sure his price was way high to begin with, but I've never heard of anyone selling them for that cheap before.
