I was excited when I got these because I thought they would look really neat on my car. Now I mocked them up and I've decided they really don't fit my car very well. All in favor say "aye".

I like them. What would they look like upside down and a little farther back?
They might look better if they were set back..but I think they might be too big.Cool lights though..
I don't think they fit the track nose look,I'm not even sure if the big 32's would look good, can't really tell with out seeing. This is where the photoshop guys come in show us some looks with different lights,I'm thinking something small.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I like em. The Passenger side looks like it is sitting too far out. It would be cool if the grill hole matched the shape of the headlights but it be tuff to make it look right.

They remind me of "The Scream". http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I actually like them, but maybe inset a little bit more like some others mentioned...
That's going to be a really neat car, by the way!

They might be a tad large, but I think the shape goes good with the car. Maybe a lil' further back and they'll look good.
-Jesse
I think they look too "Limousine "
Too much like they belong on a staid old big car like a Packard or a Nash

Fuck yes! a bit farther back and with a grill in it iand they will look right at home. I think anything would look huge without the grill in the shell.

I think they look cool, but if you don't like 'em, send 'em this way! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Here I did a quick photoshop. Moved the lights down and in a little and reshaped the openning. The chin looks a little big now (Jay Leno will like it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) I'm not that good at photoshop so I didn't add grill bars. .

Put them as low as you can and as far back as possible and leave that grill the same as it is......I say keep em.

I like them.

I would move them back and as close to the radiator shell as possible. But I would keep those lights, they look tough as hell!
Yes, I agree if the grill was reshaped at the bottom to the shape of the lights, then they work, but I dought Grim wants that much work just to use the headlights.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I think they are an interesting shape.
Moving them back and down would make them look smaller.
Painting them to match the body might make them look smaller.
But even so,they appear larger than a regular sealed beam.
And it's that extra size and visual weight that could conflict
with the minimalist racecar inspired styling. It could go either way.
What do the look like upside down? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'd move them back far enough that they're behind the car, on the floor, where we can't see them. Try something round. IMHO. dirty dug

I think they are cool lights, but need So-What's treatment or something similar. The thing thats nice about them is the fact they are DIFFERENT, and that is good IMO.

Cool car, unusual headlights. I just don't think they go together. Just my input.

I like 'em too. Maybe by being "different" now, you'll start a new trend and skyrocket the price of the ones you've got... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I want some o' those headlights now! How much? Can I buy them? (That oughta drive the price up on eBay!!)
I think that we have a majority in agreement here. Keep the lights. Adjust position and you're on a winner.

they are cool...that's not a hard item to change that much...i plan on having a bunch of different headlights, wheels, air cleaners, and a hood.those items dramaticly change a car...and are easy to change...so my ride doesn't ever get stale....that's if it evers gets done http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They gotta be in close to the shell like Hatch said. Tell ya what, I got a pair of repop 33 commercials with halogen bulbs and turn signals inside the lenses, almost new. I'd trade you for those droopy mo-fo's....Or, my great big flat-lense lights.

I like 'em. There is a blurb about them in the new Street Rod Builder.

What about rotating them 90deg in either direction. Might be interesting, might suck, i don't know. hmmm, rotated 90deg and relocated outside the front frame horns...??? I have no photoshop or I would do it.
I like what Clark did with the matching grill. My question is do you have lenes that will let the light get out in front of the car. We tryed makeing up a lens for a buddys E&J, didn't work out. went to a snowmobile seal beam.
I have mixed emotions about them.
They do look better after the photo-shopping and especially so after the grille shell was filled.
I do like the "Dare to be Different" aspect about them, but simply being different isn't always good.
What I think would help many of us to make a better informed decision would be to roll the car out into the daylight and shoot a photo from farther back.
I'm guessing that as close as the camera appears to be to the car right now, the headlights look larger than they really are.
Sorta like the difference between shooting a portrait up close which will not reflect the beauty/handsomeness of the subject due to the perspective problem and using a portrait lense and moving the camera back a way so you see the subject as they truly appear.
Maybe a side and 3/4 view while you're at it.

TO me they look big and stupid. Sorry I don't feel just being different relates to something cool. They don't even come close to being anything traditional. To me they kill the look of the track nose, which is different enough to begin with.
They might be interesting on another style of car.

Well, the headlight stands were made to work with a different light so that's why they are positioned where they are. They do look better closer to the nose but they still aren't quite right.
I think SoWhat's version looks pretty cool...but TV is right. I don't like it enough to be into a major rework just to use these lights.
I guess I was excited because they were different....and that's about it. They're too big. The big negative is they're not racey looking at all...that's not a good thing for a race car. So far I think I like dirty dug's response the best hahaha.
They are coming off but I'm going to keep them around for a while. Maybe they'll eventually go on something a little more "crazy hot rod" and a little less "early lakes car". Done.

I kinda like them. I think they would look good, you just need to find the right combination of position and stance. Would someone position them like sowhat but mount them upside down ?

IMHO, they are not streamlined enough...
I'd go with ivory painted or chrome E & J's:

I'm tending to agree with small and simple for the lights, but...
Odd question. What do they look like BACKWARDS? Track roadsters are often shown with lights rotated 180 in a feeble try at streamling...I'm guessing there's an interesting and simpler shape right behind there...

Bruce - I hear you with the backwards lights. I'll give that a shot tonight. I wonder what the legal ramifications of driving around with your lights pointed backwards are? Or what about NO HEADLIGHTS AT ALL in the daytime? My entire light bar/spreader bar unbolts and could be stored in a very small space even with the lights still attached. I designed it that way so I could take the lights off and put them back on without having to re-aim them. Suppose it doesn't matter what lights I use if they're behind the seat most of the day. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Grimlok, I like those headlights a LOT. I think they look really great on your car.
You should be really happy to have a pair of lights like that. They'd look stupid on my '34 but on your modified they're the tits.
UI urge you to keep 'em and run 'em.

Just one old guy's opinion, but after seeing the various treatments with the headlights in question, the photos with the round lights look disappointing. Maybe the first lights didn't fit the track roadster or lakes modified theme, but they sure fit the really-early-years theme and made the car memorable. Like I said, just an old fart's opinion.
I'd put a pair of Sportster size King Bee's on it and save those lights for a Resto-Coupe with matching cowl lamps and a luggage rack.
hmm whatever you end up with keep em close to the grill shell

Hey: those suckers look great. i'd move them back , so the face of the lites matches the back edge of the grill shell. try it and see how it looks. that way they don't over power the grill shell and look smaller as someone else noted.. if not, sell them to me and i'll do it on my modified, as that's how i have mine located and it look fine.
