I'm looking for pics of early 50s Buicks chopped and dropped to give me some ideas on which route to go with my 52 Special. Mild or wild is fine with me. I'm thinking a 3 inch chop laid down into the back almost fastback style. Keeping the stock side molding, and maybe throwing a 49 merc grill in there. Handles gone, nosed, decked, headlights frenched, 51 Ford taillights frenched....etc etc. So many options.....

I'd like to see/know more about johndanger's car. That car is right on in just about every way...is there any history to it? Did you do the work yourself? What's the scoop?

I still have to get a few other cars finished before I ruin this one , it's my daily driver , the 52 belair will get chopped first so I can make all the mistakes , and get my nerve up to cut this one , for now it will just stay mild , and get driven.

Still a beautiful car...I'd almost hate to cut into it, but that photochop looks sooo damn good...
Here's another shot of Dore's '53, without the top...

early 40s buicks are good canidates for customs , I keep seeing one on Ebay that never sells for 1200 bucks these have coils all the way around and great motors , dual carbs from the factory , and great lines . I really love this car , it really is a great place to start a cool project and fast and reliable enough to keep the stock engine.Seems to be an overlooked custom , well I guess not , it was one of Barris' first famous cars , his was a convertable .

Hey johndanger, who cares! That thing is damn fine the way it is without the chop. That's going to be one tough ass job when you decide to do it though. Tcoupe's come up with a real beaut too. Damn nice grill work on that one. Not sure what year that one is, though. It's pre 52, but they grafted 53 headlights in it. Real, real nice job on that one. I'll shot a profile and post it tomorrow. Let those photshopers go nuts.

Mine's a 48D. Photos straight from the manual. Right on. Thanks. First thing is are the fins! I don't know why Buick decided to fly with those things. I thing they totally ruin the lines of the car. Just my two cents.

Yeah yeah....that's the ticket. Nice, sweet and low. Gonna have to modify those wheel openings a bit...ahh screw it! Who cares about turning anyway?! I was really against tossin' the port holes, but god damn it looks so clean without them.
Now, how about a duece set upon that inline 8 with Holley 94s topped with some Edmunds cleaners with finned valve and pushrod covers. Better yet a custom itake with 3 dueces and header setup. I'm startin' to drool here. Anyone got any photos of some Buick inline mills?

Hey Johndanger, think you can whip that up with something like a 2" horizontal floating grill bar where the sharkteeth were?

Yank the grill out of a Merc so you can put in Desoto teeth.
Use the Merc grill in a Buick...
Ok, now who wants a Buick grill...
Recycling is great.
Chop the Buick into a fastback.
Go thru the same swapping routine with the trim.
End result is a 49-52 Chevy Fleetline in disguise! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It belonged to a guy named John from Yorba Linda CA last time I saw it. He also owns a similar black '52 Chevy wagon (also chopped and dropped) with handpainted wood trim on it. I think his last name starts with a "D" but I can't recall it at the moment. He's had the Buick for years and the Chevy wagon for a few less, but he hits many of the good shows in SoCal.
His Buick is what inspired me to build mine. I fell HARD for that car when I saw it. It's SO straight, SO black, and SO damn cool. Looks timeless.
