My car has a mustang II setup that was already installed when I bought the car. I'm now getting everything installed on it and I'm to the point of hooking up the power steering on it. I want to use a gm power steering pump that came off of a 67 chevelle but I remember from a post along time ago that you have to do something to the pump in order to use the gm pump on the mustang rack. Something about the mustang rack having a lower pressure than the cheverolet pump. I'd like to have my car on the road soon. Any help would be appreciated.

Summit sells an adjustable inline regulator valve just for this application. You can then cut back the pressure to your Mustang rank at your liking.

It depends on the rack that you have. The newer mustang rack does fine with the pressure from the saginaw pumps. I have a fatman stub on my wayfarer with the newer rack and a saginaw pump and it steers fine. From what Fatman's literture says, the older racks were extremely sensitive to line pressure, but it's not an issue with the newer racks.

mines most likely the older style. The front end was actually out of a mustang instead of aftermarket stuff. Its mid to late 70's I think from the stuff I have been buying for it. I remembered also that someone said something about changing some spring and washer or something like that in the back of the gm pump. I'm on a very limited budget right now with christmas coming up so I'd like to try and stay away from having to buy aftermarket fatmans stuff if I have to. But I will buy that adjustable valve if I have to.

The rack that I have came from fatman, but it's actually just a rebuilt later mustang rack from NAPA. I don't know what they run, but you could just pull one out of the junkyard and have the newer style. I just looked it up and it's from a '79 to '93 mustang. Heidts sells an adjustable pressure regulator that runs about $80. The other kinds aren't adjustable and I've talked to people who say that their cars drive like a truck with the spring in the back of the pump. My friend's '37 chevy pu has that setup thought and it drives ok.

There is a small internal-pressure-valve-and-spring-piston-assembly that you can adjust the pressure on. You buy this small clamping kit from one of the Street Rod shops (like Yogi's I think) for about $20 and it includes special washers and instructions to adjust the pressure. Then you can sell or loan the set to the next guy with a MII front end w/Chevy pump. Way cheaper than the adjustable inline valves from Heidts and such. Easy to do, and no extra parts to buy.

Thanks alchemy thats what I was wanting to know. I didn't want to buy one of the adjustable pressure valves I don't like them. A buddy of mine bought one for his truck plus the ones for the brakes and they didn't work worth a shit. I didn't like the way it drove with them. And they were fatmans stuff. He bought the heidts ones next it drove the same way. But it could of just been his truck or something.
