I'm to the point now where I am ready to get some rods for my 392. I'm looking for 4340 H beams. Manley and Eagle seem to be the best on the market, or so I've heard. They need to hold up in a blown HEMI and my right foot, so I need really strong high quality ones.

Which brand do you recomend and why? Thanks.

Can you get a set of CAT rods for your HEMI? I bought a set for my 408 stroker motor and they are the shit. From what I have been told, they are from the same maker as the Eagles, the only difference is where the machine work was performed. My set came PERFECTLY balanced, with ARP bolts and needed NOTHING to install.

Cat, Scat, Eagle, all Chinese made. Not sure about Manley steels. Better than stock, almost certainly. But buy what your budget allows, not everyone can afford Carillo/Crower/Oliver/Lentz/Cunningham $1,200-1,600 rods. Just know that Eagle is Chinese and that real racers don't use that stuff. The bad comments are fairly frequent on drag race boards about that stuff. What's the engine being used for?

Manley. Period. Depending on the HP and RPMs you are turning, The Eagle rods with the L19 bolt upgrade might be ok also. If the money difference isn't terrible between Manley and Eagle, I'd rather see you go with Manley.
I would steer clear of C.A.T... you get what you pay for.

The brands you mentioned and many others are all cast and or forged in China, and shipped here in boat containers, and the shipments are split up to the perspective companies that are awaiting. They then take the rods to their shops and do the machining.
I'd suggest Crower.

i run manley. i also have had extremely good luck with scat stuff, i dont care at all for C.A.T. stuff, have seen it break on dyno runs. make sure you get the best rod bolts in it you can get, i also have everything magnafluxed, even new shit.

Id think you would want I beams not H beams, I like the manley sportsman I beam rods. you are using 440 rods correct? Manley also makes an H beam rod I believe they are called the sportsmaster, which I believe is the EXACT same "CHEAP" rod as EAGLE sells. Dont get me wrong, EAGLES are tough as hell, but not as strong as an I beam.... The I beam manleys are made in the usa, and will handle all the power you will be able to make, and I think they are $650-700. look up MANCINI racing, or MUSCLE MOTORS (mopar shops) both in michigan, they will probably have the best deals on manley rods. Racefab..the rods you saw break on the dyno runs, where they the "I" beams? I have seen and heard a lot of bad about THEM,but not about the "H" beams......at least not on anything naturally aspirated.

the problems i encountered were with I beams, they were snapping bolts, i was told it is a freak deal, and the problem was corrected, but i can lay a bunch of rods on the bench side by side, and the qaulity of the cat is definetly poorer. i have also had problems with there SFI balancers.

i am not a big H beam fan, i think it gives people the impression of a much stronger part than they actually have,

i always say buy the best rod your budget can afford,

I am in the process of building a Turbo-Charged 3.0 2 valve Mitsubishi engine, and am installing a set of these Pauter rods in it. VERY nice parts. At almost a grand for 6 rods, they are not cheap, but we plan on BEATING on this engine for quite a while, with a shitload of boost.(over 30 lbs.) http://photo.starblvd.net/~SKR8PN/3-3-3.jpg

If you can make sure manley makes their rods in the USA, that's the best bet for an aftermarket rod.

Of course, it's hard to beat a stock mopar rod. A friend of mine used to have a stock LY rod hanging on his wall, from when his stocker 426 dropped a valve. the rod was bent in a Z, with no cracks at all. a lesser rod would have surely cracked into a few pieces. six pack rods, which everyone thinks are too heavy to run, actually weight only about 10% more on average then the stock LY rods. I've got a set in my '62, which after stress riser removal, polishing the beams and balancing came down to within 7% of stock, weighing in at 1.995 pounds. looking at the cross section of a six pack rod, they are huge, and i'm sure could handle a blown hemi.

I guess for me it's a toss up between the stock reworked six pack rods and manley. the next step might be to call up manley, and see if they think their rods are up to the task. Dave
