Hey guys... An idea struck me (hit me upside the head with a frying pan... we're going to golden corral! ahem... nevermind) What if I could take a PTO style diff throw it up under a pickup truck, and mount a pto driven generator under the bed? I've always heard the 6 banger chevy's get decent milage... that or a diesel of some sort...

Generator for the house... portable welder... parts hauler... and more weight in the back for a snow vehicle!

What do yall think? Doable? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

you gotta jack your axle off the ground and have the wheels spinng for the pto to spin... you know?

Unless you're gonna do a "driveby welding" on some chumps...

I didnt know that...

Scratch that idea! It'd be doable... but would stink do have to do it any time ya needed it!

Wonder what would be involved in making one that could bolt to the tail shaft of a tranny?

Prolly could be used for a dry sump oil pump... or hydraulics http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Why not just fab another bracket and run the weldernator off the crank? Thats how the jeep guys do it... air compressors, too. No need to swap axles!
