How many of you drive your cars every day. I live in New England and was wondering if any body else tries driving the winters in their older car

While I was building my AV8 roadster, I drove a '63 1/2 Falcon hardtop. It had a built 289 4-speed with 4:11's. It was a blast to drive until the snow flew. I drove it for two years without a hitch. I'm currently looking for an old Ford pick-up for a daily driver to replace my 2000 S-10.

I just stopped driving my 51 Chevy yesterday, I'm sure you know why. If it were'nt for the 17 mile drive to & from work, the SUV driving super heros and the abundance of salt thrown on the roads, I'd stil drive it in the snow.

I drove my '67 skylark 2 dr. hardtop everyday for the last 8 years, until this Sept, when my wife got a new car and I got the old one. I can tell you, driving it in the snow, even with snow tires was a pain in the ass. My dad used to drive his '63 bonneville year round everyday until a couple years ago. Once I was driving it in january and someone stopped me to tell me they had some wheels that would fit it. I told them, "oh, I have wheels, these are the snow tires" they almost died. I guess they thought that I'd just taken it out on a nice day, not that I was just driving it because it's just a CAR

Usually, the daily driver duties get split between the 40 coupe and the 41 pickup, but since both those junkpiles are currently giving me a hard time, the 29 hiboy has been getting me around for the last couple of weeks. Lots of fun, but a little cool at 0530 in the morning......

Since dondanno talked me into it, I have been driving ny 62 Ranchero every day. My 96 Dodge truck sits in the driveway. Driving to work is fun again, although the vacuum wipers make it a little hairy sometines.....

My '57 F-100 has been my first successful daily driver AND hot rod project. Not always the most dependable, but often a consistent daily driver. Since I bought 'er 2 years ago, only a partial engine rebuild and the current paint-prep project have kept me from driving it daily. Plan on a major rebuild of the mill to make it even more dependable, for when the next project rod comes along. Daily driver rods rock!

Howza Bruthas,
When we moved up here two tears ago, the Sledsel was my daily driver for about 4 months. That was until the gas prices really spiraled! Now, the Lemon Krate does the duty.

My first car in 1998 was a '71 Ford Torino, daily driver. It sucked in the snow and the salt destroyed the car's structural integrity, it seriously ruined a good car.
I drive winter beaters now. If I move where there is mild climate, it will be an old ride.

when i was 17-18 i drove my 63 Impala year round. i hated to do it cause it WAS a nice car and the roads up here really suck in the winter (lots-o-salt). i spun it around a couple times driving like it was'nt slippery. only hit one thing though and that was one of those little reflector poles. did'nt notice the dent in the fender for two days. when i was younger i always drove myhot rods daily. it was all i could afford. now i drive the the wife's hand me down 96 Sunfire. i drive that and shee drives this every day (it's an 02).....

I drive a 67 mustang every day. Here in the desert, salty roads aren't a problem, just heavy rain. When it rains, it covers up whole interesections, and most people don't know how to handle it, so you gotta watch out. I'm from back east, so i'm familar with all that snow that you guys are showing.
BTW, the only problems I have while driving it every day, is no heater (someone yanked out all the controls), crappy brakes, and 4:11 gears. I like the gears even though I only get 8-10mpg, the heater doesn't bother me, and as long as I don't have to panic stop everything is all good. If'n I ever get a Model A sedan, i'll drive it every day too.

the only car i own, besides the A project is my 60 catalina. it's a running driving project.
I start a new job tomorrow which allows my '59 truck to become my daily driver.
yeah before I get to much crap about why... I no longer have to take the highway to work. And since top speed w/ the original rear and 3spd is all of 50mph. It make it a little less annoying...

I alternated between my '61 Futura and '66 Club Wagon (daily driver for 5 years) until this year. Here is a typical shot from last winter. The snow and ice scuffed the paint and the salt brought out some serious rust. Winter beats the crap out any car here. I drove the van year-round for 5 years, but I bought a new truck this summer and now drive that. I have the Futura garaged this year, but it was outside last winter. The van has never been garaged.

I've been driving mine every day (even though I don't really want to). The heat works great and it starts instantly in the morning no matter what. Then it doesn't start at all if I try again an hour later. Sigh. Plus I can't take it to touchless car washes because it's got holes in the floor/rockers, and despite my best last-ditch efforts before it snowed, rust is still starting to creep up on the jagged edges that won't hold paint very well.
Blah http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif If it were in better condition I wouldn't have the slightest problem with driving it in the snow and salt. Cars don't rust if you paint them right and keep them clean.

My daily driver is a 69 pontiac full size 2 door hardtop that 's lowered alot ,it's blue with a white and black interior and has chrome smoothie wheels and a done up 350 smallblock in it ,it's a canadian model so it has the same frame and drive train as a impala.we don't get too much snow around here and they don't usually salt the roads ,just gravel em so i allways drive my cars year round.last year i drove the 57 chev wagon, year before 66 satellite etc.It just rains ALOT here so rain x is a necessity! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I drive a 48 Ford F-1 pickup with a 425 Caddy on a daily basis. I'm a little late this year but I mount studded snow tires for the winter, I also have two pieces of 1 1/2" X 2' X 4' blue stone in the bed for ballast (approx. 350 lbs). No problems in three winters.

That reminds me to mention that I just put 400 lbs of sand (4 tyvek sand bags @100 lbs each) in the bed of my pickup (Dakota). It helps with traction. My dad always made a frame to hold concrete slabs in the bed of his pickup, but I need the bed floor since I haul junk frequently.

I bought this to drive in the winter, but I can't leave anything alone. I lowered it, flamed it, and white walled it. The wagon behind it was my driver until I moved to Misery. It's a 66 big block Caprice wagon. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I drive a '65 Galaxie everyday. Granted its just a beater. When the F-Truck is done it'll be the new beater. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I've got a 4wd chebby in the drive but I haven't driven it in awhile, it just takes up space. Anyone need a rod hauler? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
In the late '70s early '80s I had a '49 pan that was my address. I kept a '64 chebby at my moms house but didn't get there very often.
I've always driven what I built good weather or bad. I always figured it it got broken I could fix it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My daily driver. The rain-X helps a lot, the tiny wiper is useless.
I drive the 1960 F-100 I got from Killer just about every day. If I have to pull a trailer (kinda common in my line of work - probably 1-2 times a week.) I have a 2002 Chevy that I drive.
