I went today to pick up a few parts for Barnett. The parts came from an 83 year old friend way up in the hills. This old dude always has 2-3K in his wallet and he restores Fords as fast as he can get them done. He welds upside down like a pro, builds his own Flatheads, and stitches his own upholstery. Truly one of the old guys that knows everything. He lives in a nasty, 40x40 shack.

His collection includes a '35 sedan, '36 coupe, '48 Lincoln, '39 sedan, '40 convert, 41 sedan, a Model A coupe, sport coupe, and roadster, '50 coupe and a '52 Chevy convert. All are nice restorations in a building 100 times nicer than his house - seriously.

His next project is a '36 Ford Phaeton he talked a widow out of recently. The car makes me weak. I'd kill for it. When he finishes all it will need to suit me is a hot Flatty and a dropped stance.

What's killing me though is the fact that he won't be around forever and his sons will get it all - if he even has a will. They know what the cars mean to their Dad. They don't care about them but they'll keep them locked up forever. What worries me even more is the fact that if he doesn't have a will, the state will take it all. Yeah, I want his car, but I care about the old dude too. He is a good friend.

That '36 sitting in that building up in the hills haunts me.

It sucks.

Sounds like he's a pretty tough old guy...he'll probably out-live all of us, anyways! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I hope the cars ffind a good home, though...regardless who owns them.

Man that's a rare and beautiful car. Dad had a Washington blue tudor (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) when I was a kid. Even those are pretty rare. I don't think I've ever seen the phaeton.

Speedboat-style windshields always looked so right on these (the roadsters too).

Harrison, There was a guy fron Tenn. at the LA Roadster show who was selling a 36 tub unrestored for 13grand.The car looked like you could throw a running flatty in and go maybe add hyd.brakes. He may still have it.If you want, I can email you his number and you can go from there.

I can't afford a new set of 'Stones much less a car. I would be curious to know who took that tub to LA though. Tennesseans "in the know" enough to cart a tub to LA for the roadster show are few and far between. I bet I'd know the guy but hadn't heard of any tubs other than this one ('till now).

Hopefully, if this tub ever becomes available, I will have had time to better my financial situation and will be able to step up.

Family-sized roadsters kick ass.
