does anybody out there have an upper a arm for a 49-52 pontiac that they would want to part with? i had a real stupid problem the other night. among SEVERAL setbacks, it started when the factory manual says to tighten arm shaft bushings to 385 ft lbs or so, i got to about 200 and cracked the vise, so i figured hell, its good, i'll tighten it on the chassis! well, it doesn't work too well that way, especially when you forget to use your spacer tool and PINCH your a arms in. not only did this make more work, but it stripped the bastard out! i've got some time before it's needed to drive the car, but if i'm gonna have this sucker done this spring, the sooner i get this fixed, the better. anybody got a new upper a arm and maybe a good upper a arm shaft??? pleeeease? i'll gladly pay a fair price guys.

not sure if chevy will work, i have heard the rebuild kits are different in price, so i can only wonder. if somebody has a chevy arm and doesn't want a whole lot for it, i'd buy it to try it. i think it has to be 49-52 though.

I've got a bunch of Chevy ones...want me to snap a pic and send it for comparison? I don't have one off the car, but I think I have two cars that the spindles have been pulled on..so it shouldn't be too hard to remove. Anyone with an old Hollander manual that can look this up?

Go back to page 2 on the HAMB and check out wayfarer's post about Junkyard Pics. Look at picture 8. If nothing else works out for you, it looks like Antique Auto Ranch has a Pontiac of the correct vintage...

I thought I'd take a look but my oldest Hollander only goes back to 53....shows 53 and 54 as Poncho only...

thanks rocky. there still may be hope though, 49-52 a arms were c channel in two pieces, such that the open end of the C faced in and the back of the C was toward the outside. in 53 and 54 they switched it and the open end of the C faced out with the back of the C facing in.

What was that one we were eyeballin up in Swanton a few weeks ago Josh? I could make a run for ya. Hell, if yer buyin the part I spose I could even run it down to ya on Christmas shutdown, just to check outcher digs and the Poncho.

hmm, so pontiac only. makes it a bit more challenging then. rooster, the one up front was a 53 or 54. there were a few 49-52's there, but i'm not sure how easy it would be to get the a arms off, they were pretty bad. you'd likely need a 10 ft cheater pipe i bet. still an option though! you're welcome to swing down regardless. thanks for the ongoing help guys, and info from the hollander book.

Hey rat, here's the pic of the a-arm on the chevy...but I think you've already determined that it won't work. This should verify it...why not forget the stock stuff and go with something later? You've already got the rear updated..
