With the recent post by LOKustoms...it got me thinking...what do I contribute to the HAMB? Should I contribute more?...am I wasting time?
Alot of things are contributed here....tech tips...event planning, auction money, humor, event photos, etc, etc.
I learned photoshop on this board and enjoy helping people with their concepts...thats my kick.
What do you contribute....and why?
One contribution I see that doesn't seem to be wanted around here...spam...are you a spammer? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I contribute information about (and encourage the use of) Buick Nailheads in anything and everything! Well, mainly I hang around to put forth the occasional jab at you since I found your weak spot, you ol' die hard Chebby-lover http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
All jokin aside, since I am a tech advisor for the Buick Club of America and build rods and customs here in my shop, I enjoy helping those fellas that need historical or tech info, parts interchange info, and restoration or customizing tips. I also enjoy the pleasant company and knowledge of the HAMBers, especially when the crickets are quietly chirping while we enjoy an espresso and biscotti...well, make that a Corona and Cuervo!
You're alright Hatch, hope you take my insanity for face value this time http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My contribution (besides sarcasm) was talking Ray into signing up.
And I've pulled & shipped some parts to a few HAMBers in need.
Other than that, I'm basically useless.

I'm a schmuck...I talk about mini-bikes, gay magazines and how cool small block Fords are! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
In between all of that important stuff, though...I try to answer the tech questions that I can, offer kudos or a few words of encouragement here and there, and I take STELLAR pics of HAMB-worthy shit with an antique camera last hawked by Michael Landon and James Garner back when it WAS cutting edge!
I got a knack for remembering stupid trivial details that I call up on occasion when somebody refers to an old rod or magazine that I remember, and I'll give anyone parts they need that I don't!
(Gay pink skateboards GLADLY given to Canadian Mini-Bike Dreamers who feel worthy as well!)
I also try my lame attempts at photo-Hacking...but I just use MS Paint and my two bad eyes...I don't rule at it the way Vicky-Hoarder Hatch does...he's the MAN with Photoshop! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I guess that's about it, aside from providing comic relief...

I mainly just ask a lot of dumb questions. Someday when I know it all I'll contribute by answering the new newbies' dumb questions.
I seriously get much more out of this place than I am able to put in. Hopefully that can change as I learn.
'Till then, thanks to Ryan and everyone else for helping me along.

You dont give yourself quite enough credit, Jeffy! You aint useless. Even if you do nothing more than ask a question, you have started a thread that will recieve answers and hopefully someone will learn something from it. If nothng else it will allow us to show the lurkers and random visitors that this is the place where we all love each other and we are in touch with our inner child (Well, I am trying to find my feminine side, and when I do you wont see me for a month!!!).
We like every other HAMBers car and respect his/her opinion, and never say a foul word to one another. Now...who is being sarcastic and useless?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It'll take me about 8 hours to drive up there, Hatch...you gonna wait for me? Anyway, I think I owe you the beer if I recall correctly...

what do i bring to the HAMB table?
good question,
i try to inspire thought in others,
i am an outspoken activist on the non use of billet, ('cept if you use a billet alternator bracket as a muffler bracket, or a gear shift lever!!)
i can weld almost anything, and make it stick, ('cept wood, maybe i should try to strike an arc with a dowel rod on that!! ) and i share my experience with hambers in that.
i am a promoter of using Rustoleum, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
i hate cookie cutter cars, gold chainers, and most if not all of the establishment.....
but basically i am just a surly old fart, that bitches and complains a lot

I'm the official HAMB metallurgist. Also provide technical input or advice as I can. I spend too much time on here when I am supposed to be working........
On the other side I really gain a lot of good technical info and ideas on here from almost everyone. The HAMB is the best thing out there for quick and accurate help.

Interesting thought.
I thinks it's important to state what I DON"T contribute:
I don't start shit.
I don't sling shit.
I don't bag on other people's projects (however I will occasionally offer constructive criticism if it's solicited).
I don't bitch and piss and whine about every freaking thing in the universe that I don't like or doesn't conform to my personal tastes.
I do try to offer constructive positive answers when I feel I have something worthwhile to contribute (Usually others have already provided accurate information prior to me logging in and I feel no need to add anything).
I share tens of thousands of pictures of the coolest hot rods and customs on the planet for those of you who are too remote, too broke, or too lazy to get out there and see them for yourself.
And occasionally I'll chime in with some smart assed comments to my friends just to keep them on their toes.

Hmmm, contribute? I'd say my good looks but I guess that doesn't count here. I guess I'd have to say: to ask dumb questions, post interesting pics, make sarcastic remarks, ask dumb questions, to be poked fun at (you pokers know who you are!), I used to photoshop until Hatch got so good at it, ask dumb questions, pass along useless info, and greet newcomers....oh did I mention, ask dumb questions?
This is a great place to visit but I wouldn't want to live here.
Seriously, I've met some great people thru the HAMB and I thank everyone one for passing on their knowledge and giving me inspiration.

Don,
I like your reply and I like your website. You are die hard traditional and I like it. You fly the flag well and play with old cars cos you like them. Not for the recognition you may get. There is quite a difference. We do this stuff cos it does it for us, not for the other guy or to fit in with the crowd. Am I correct?
I am pretty good at pointing out when someone is being a dumbass (mstly from experience). I would like to think that since I have spent my entire adult life around trucks (from Model A to Late-Model) that I can point someone in the right direction if thay have a question about one.

Stay Gold!
I've learned a lot more here than I've passed along.
Most times from a newbie posting a question that seems to them simple and perhaps sounding dumb, but they did post it and we did benefit.
Best part is seeing the different ways to do things.
Far as contributions go, I like to think I've encouraged a few to build some things that they may think are beyond them.
Basic tools and a little imagination go a long way.

I don't know. Lately not a lot, to busy.
You guys have either fucked me for life or saved my ass.
Since arriving here I've sold my '69 short bed and '66 Malibu. Bought a hell of a lot of Model A parts and have tried to assemble something. I own a 8BA and have no idea what to do with it. Sure looks the shit just setting there. Building a dual intake for it because I don't want to pay two bills for one and I have the material.
Can't make me give up the injected BBC. It'll probably kill me so that's my way outta this life. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Two weeks ago the retired neighbor across the street asked me if I wanted a '67 Camaro. His son doesn't want it anymore and he wants it out of his garage, been in there 14 years. Mind you he has already given me a '96 Mustang that only needed a heater core. So probably pretty cheap. A couple of years ago I would have slept on his door step until he gave it up. Now? Hence my desire/drive to attend so many events. The cars are what we all have in common but it's the people that make life so special.

Good question what do I contribute? I have done "cars" for a long time, I've built Rod's & Customs and been involved with the restoration of some very interesting cars, some of which reside in mueseums, anybody that knows Me knows I'm still an active builder and I try and build a new car once a year, the whole while making use of My main talent= making something from nothing, and using a lot of imagination in the process instead of money, to that end I post pix now and again try and be helpful when possible, and I stay out of topics about Import cars( cause that's not what the hamb is about, and I don't like Imports anyway),clothes & pomps( cause it outta be about the cars)and Music, but truth be told I like Blues, Surf, Doo Woop, Rock-a-billy, and Big Band the most, and hate Rapp music ( if You can call that music, and I don't). The hamb is about trad styled Rod's & Custom's and that is what I try and talk about, or at least something along those lines, sometimes I post a car or parts in the classifieds, I have sold a 41 Chevy and a Y-block there. My hats off to Ryan for giving us " The HAMB" . Von Doc

I hope I can pass along some of the 25+ years of custom body and paint experience I've 'accumulated'. And my philosophy expressing the ephemerism of the art of "kustoms".
Why?...better question. I have know some very smart guys, and great teachers, and idols over the years. I consider myself very lucky to have met them, and learned from them . And to keep good Karma, I believe I should try to educate, inspire, or entertain others in the black art of customizing. I am repaying my debt to the old-timers, by helping the newbies!

Well I guess info on things going on down here in N.Z., tossing HAMB auction bits in the mail with Alfster from time to time, I get a chunk of early olds tech and try give a little as well, this is great as info is pretty thin on the ground here in NZ on such stuff.
Oh and I try to give the Aussies a hard time when I can http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What is my contribution to the HAMB?
Not enough.
not much, i'm afraid. i imagine that i get/take a lot more than i give.
1. i hope when i ask one of my many questions that the answer helps others as much as it helps me.
2. i also hope that somewhere along the line i've provided some encouragement so someone; i try to.
3. i once was able to hook up an unused gas tank with a car that needed it.
4. i also hope that my eternal optimism and positive attitude has rubbed off on someone. "all my days are good and most are better than that." "i've never had a bad day; some just aren't as good as others." "it'll all work out somehow." i try to never criticize others or say anything that would be discouraging. i got enough of that as a child and from the 28 years i was married. if i ever do or say any of the above please, someone, hit me with a 2x4 to get my attention and get me straightened out.
5. oh, yes; to all of you i promised i'd send out the 200 +/- msword tech files i'll probably start sending them next week. i've spent most of the past month on various vacations, but am back to "normal" now. and if there's anyone else who wants on the list send an e-mail to me at willie.atchley@med.va.gov and i'll add you.
ps; thanx ryan

My contribution to the Hamb...:
I bought 2 t-shirts...
I bought a Hamb drags video...
I'll buy a Hamb cookbook if it ever gets made...
I entered a raffle a while back, sent in $20...didn't win...
I try to answer questions when I know the answer...
(usually not too much 'major' tech stuff...)
I try to learn as much as I can from the people who post stuff I'm interested in...
I give certain people shit, and I take shit from certain people...
And I've met some seriously kick-ass people who I am proud
to call my friends... You know who you are...

I find myself holding back often. I build some high end Street Rods for other people and would like to share some of the things I do that doesn't involve bilet. But out of respect for the traditional flavor of the HAMB I don't post as much as I might like to sometimes.
But if anyone has any questions about building glass cars with current parts avalible from guys like SO-Cal and Pete&Jakes, and ANy other advertiser in any Rod magizine on the market, just let me know. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Oh yea, I did buy 2 HAMB shirts. Participated in acouple of HAMB raffels and had one auction of my own that generated about 25bucks.
Most importantly though I RESPECT the HAMB! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I gave Cole "New Guy Hell" the HAMB way, when he first signed up... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
(And a few others too...)
I change my signature as often as I get bored with it.
I have no problem with telling someone a hat or a car is ugly if they haven't paid for it yet.
(or sometimes if they haven't pay too much yet..)
Every once in a blue moon I send Ryan a "subscription" check to assuage my guilt for having so much fun!

I am usually pretty good at Pontiac tech stuff - not an expert, but I am connected to about a dozen people who are and I can call 'em up if someone here really needs to know (and I don't have the answer).
I am a graphic artist, I also paint, draw, sculpt and etc. I lend art advise and try to help the Photoshop needs of the HAMB. I am usually a day late and a dollar short (I swear some of you have no jobs!!! How do you get to this place all the time!?!) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I think the HAMB has a good balance of teachers and students. It is a wealth of knowledge when it is not clogged with crap. I am guilty of STARTING very few O/T or nonsensical posts, at least as far as I can remember. I try to stay out of fights - only been in a handful of arguements (I was in on a SBC bashing that went awry), but sometimes it's hard to bite your tongue when it really gets on your nerves!!
My post count was getting nutty when I first got on here, but I have since learned that the best way to keep your foot out of your mouth is to keep your mouth shut. Also I have been working on so many things latey that posting has become rare for me. If I can't add to a post - I don't!!!
I am trying to finish getting my 50 Buick road ready (I am soooo broke). I learned a ton about Buicks and I8's thanks to this place. After I sell the Buick - I am going to build a Roth/Moriarity inspired fiberglass custom-rod. With that in mind I guess that means I won't be going anywhere soon....sorry fellas. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

At first I said to myself, "Not a damn thing" " Then I said to myself,"No that's not right". Then I wondered why I was having a conversation with myself knowing full well that I don't listen to anything I say. So I asked the wife why I was talking to myself but she didn't answer. She seemed to be to aborbed in ignoring me to answer. Since the neither the wife or I were listening to myself, I figured I should ask the one person that always listens to me. Unforunately the dog as busy licking his balls so I was back to talking to myself.
All I came up with:
I run the HAMBChat (http://groups.msn.com/ZekesHAMBerChat) where 350+ HAMBers have signed up to chat but only 15-20 HAMBers visit regularly(not to name drop) including Radshit,Ryan, Roothawg, ElPolacko, Tinbender, Tman Wes and The artist I'm still waiting on cookbook art from formally know as Tim.It was once allegedly visited by Mike Ness and Cole Foster via Germ. Does that make me famous?
I rewrote Dr Suess' Green Eggs and Ham as a tribute to SamIyam's trip to the Egorama Green Eggs and HAMB. Then posted it for all the HAMB to read. That may explain the talking to myself. Anyone have it saved?
I will have written and published the first and possibly only HAMBcook book. I just need to finish the cover.
Other than that I add what I can with my limited knowledge of hotrodding, a little humor and the odd off the wall question.

Even wrenched on cars for a living once! Now I have an office job and visit the HAMB at work (and home) and of course Zeke's Chat where I have one of those Hammer things and mainly keep the nite watch with Zod, Wes and one or two others, speaking of which, it has been a little quiet...

:D I'm reinventing my self, having my midlife crises, I'm 57. Use to like street rods and drag racing when I was physically young. I retired from road racing , bought a 1954 F100 from the original owner in Yuma Arizona - ( IT has RUST ). built the chassis complete with a inline hopped up 300CI inline 6 , and now learning hammerwelding and body work , after I PAID  some one else to screw the body work all up.
I look to this board for answers and inspiration as most cars at the shows the owners know very little to nothing other than their charge card number.

I was a FNG and I posted wanting to know how to channel my roadster. Ray asked for my phone number and called me. We talked for half an hour and he gave me great ideas and alot of confidence to go on with my project. I found out quickly what kind of people are on the HAMB. We have some awsome selfless and giving people on the board. - kyle

What do you contribute....and why?
Hmmm - I dont have a ton of hard core building knowledge (I dont build-hubby does) BUT I co-own a hot rod shop and try to offer up support and assitance with what I can. The business is a hard long road and Im just the type to try to let others know when something sucks - so they dont have to go through it too.
Im also an Asst Director for the Right Coast Association as well as a State rep for SEMA Action network (in fact I may have been the first one- been one for 8 years now) to work on Hot rod legislation-and saving the hobby- and Media Relations Director for Bearing Burners Car Club of MA.
Plus, Im blonde- thats SOMETHING for comical content I guess.:D

Jeez, I really don't contribute a whole lot, for different reasons.
I'm a part-time custom painter (over 30 years), sign painter, (nearly 30 years), glass engraver (20 years), writer who's contributed to a few magazines and spent a whole day hanging out with and interviewing Ed Roth at his house, stock car racer (going for over 45 years, racing since '78), and charity fund-raising events promoter and organizer.
I was into scooters for over thirty years, built lots of choppers, some V6 trikes with hand-built fiberglass bodies, and built, painted scoots for others.
I'm a welder fabricator by trade (25 years), and am pretty damned good at it.
I keep a low profile, usually don't see posts that I could contribute to until someone else has already given good advice. I don't answer tech posts unless it goes a while & I know something that could help, because, as much experience and knowledge I think I have, there's usually someone on here smarter than I am, better than I am, and quicker to respond than I am.
Since joining this board, I've decided to break all my pencils, brushes, camera, and a lot of other stuff:( . The talent here is astounding.
I've bought some t-shirts, decals, and some other stuff, try to be a good HAMB "citizen", and plan to build a gas rail to see just how wrong I can do that.:D

My art, wit and occasional stuff I've picked up elsewhere about Impalas or 235s. Hopefully, a magazine called Skin & Tin in the near future that will contribute to general depravity:D
