5 speed conversion into 32 photos

Didn't even have to split the front wishbone to clear the late model trans. - but that's illegal down there anyway, right? Again, nice work - and hey check it out, it looks to be finished with paint and everything! ROAD grime. What motor is in front of that?

Thanks for the follow-up pics. I like the way you tied the K-member into your trans mount.

I am getting closer to putting the flathead/t-5 combo in my 32 chassis. I will post some pics when I get it in.

Hi , thanks, thought someone might benefit from the underneath photos, as I have seen quite a lot written on 5 speed conversions.

Car is finished and running have put about 2000mi on it since doing this conversion. used a flatattack bellhousing to mate gbox to motor. I have original pedals so wanted to keep the mechanical clutch- why change what aint broke.

You cant see from the photos, but to tie in the top of the cross member used 10mm bar and bent it to suit and bolted it to K member so its removable to make getting engine/box out easier.

got some other phots that I thought might complete the picture. On an off note, had some serious trouble with the radius rods, that will require some welding, seems the almighty torque of that flathead is just waaaaayyyyy too much ( or is it that with the new found gearing, I love peeling out http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

anyway these below show the box with the shifter in its original position, so picture the shifter housing turned around 180 degrees, so now it sits closer to the firewall and away from the seat. I will also post of pic on the little shifter mechnaism that is inside the housing that needed to be redrilled and heated and bent to suit.

All in all this was bout a 10 hour job to get it right, but worth it as it makes the car look more original, but with and OD

heres the shifter selector on the shaft, also the shifter housing had to have a 1/2" plate made to raise it so it wouldnt interfer with the rear locator of the shaft that you can see.

If you look at the two above photos you can see that the front of the shifter housing is very shallow, that is why a plate had to be made.

The photo of the selector, is just as it has been drilled and turned around to face the new mounting position ,before is was heated and bent to suit.

Psycho dropped around last night and we 'mocked' up his set up as I have a spare 5 speed, guess it would come down to how available the supra/celica 5 speeds are in the US. I would think the T5's are more readily available.

The mockup relieved some worries I had about the adapter fitting and Corey's explanation of how the clutch/flywheel mechanism all fitted together was awesome.

I know of at least one other US hamber running the supra box, I searched for "supra" and it popped up in a post.
