Where can you get these wheel jacks cheaply?

If you're like me, you get all kinds of car catalogs, particularly right before Christmas. A lot of them have a lot of worthless and expensive stuff, like eight different flavors of carnauba wax, or sixteen styles of young girls' Von Dutch shirts.

One such company is the California Car Cover Co. They've got it all, and at pretty fat prices.

Anyways, they have these neat wheel jacks:

I like what they're selling, but I don't want to pay their price.

Does anyone know of a different source for the same, or better, wheel jacks?

how do they work? do they squeeze the rollers together, and that lifts the tire?

how much are they in the catalog you have?

Yup, your mig in your garage. They look easy enough to build.

Along a similar line, I have a buddy who's into C-5 Vettes. They have the same problem most of us do in that a jack won't fit under the car very well. He came up with a simple idea. Take 4 2X6s about 2 feet long and nail some carpet on top of them so it hangs off the end a ways. Put them in front of your tires with the carpet facing the tires. When you drive foreward onto the boards, the carpet will keep the boards from poping up as the tire hits the edge of the board. Once on the boards, you'll have 2 more inches of clearance so you can get that floor jack under the car to a good lifting point.

I have not seen any of that style cheap but the ones that you jack it up and set the tire in are a lot cheaper.

I forgot to add before, I have about 8-10 of those rollers you jack up and put under the tire. they rock. you can put them under engines, trannies, heavy shit, and just push it around like nothin.really makes it nicer in the shop when you can pack another vehicle in.

I sell the Go Jack 1500 lb version at $139, the recovery guys love them. Those are the $200+ ones at the site mentioned above.

Also carry the wheel dollies, $79 for a set of 4. Cant be bothered trying to make them at that price!
