View Full Version : How was YOUR weekend???

Well, it was a long one...but probably the best Turkey-Day weekend in recent history for me! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
After the usual family dinner gig on Thursday, and getting the exhaust fixed on my daily beater Friday, I was ready to tackle the BIG project...diving into the 49 Chevy Hackmobile!
Once again, I can't thank Jay and his buddy, Donnie enough for their efforts...loading up and transporting a long-dead hulk is no easy task...but they sure helped make it painless! It arrived at my place in tact early Saturday morning!
Then, I had to dive in and free up the rear brakes to make the beast easier to move around. I now have a pretty firm grasp of how 49 Chevy rear brakes come apart! Both rear wheels spin freely now!
Tried some cheap Wal-Mart fix-a-flat in the leaky tire that was flat this morning....rolled the wheel and tire around my front yard and up and down the driveway looking like a total dork to spread the sealer around....but it was still holding air when I came inside for the evening today!! We'll see how well it works!!
Made up a low buck Hack-Seal to install the rear window glass with temporarily...involved duct tape, spark plug wire, and some backyard enginuity....oughtta keep stray critters larger than most Florida bugs outta the car this Winter!!!
Also started stripping off parts from the dead 216 engine...making the car lighter (easier to push) and making for less to remove later. Might yank the whole motor and tranny before the snow sets in...or maybe wait till early spring...we'll see how the weather holds out!
Spent some time talking to an old man that lives across the street...he was telling me how those old Chevys were what he and his buddies played with back in high school, and how good he was at rebuilding the stock three speed trannys! I don't think I've talked to that guy for that long in all of the past 20 years combined!! Kinda cool that the old codgers in my neighborhood actually LIKE the car!
All in all, a long but productive weekend...leaving me feeling tired in a real good way! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
What did y'all get done???

My weekend was pretty good. Did some cleaning. Looked for
a car for my girl. My have found somthing cool. Her father
went &checked it out. It was a 1962 Buick speical. He said
it had some miner oil leaks and needed a exhaust. The $ is
close to what we want to spend. Will see what happens.

Well my weekend was spent mostly on getting my 64 riv moved to its storage location(friends garage). Then i spent a couple hours last night fixing the fuel leak on it that was dumping gas in the garage. It was too late to go buy the parts to fix it right and too far away to go get my tools and spare parts. so i dug around his crap and finally found a couple bolts and an additional pipe clamp...
took longer to find rags and a container to catch the gas in. But now before i can drive it again i have to replace that rubber fuel line from under the passanger side door all the way up on to the engine block.
I Really wish i had a garage of my own to work on my rigs in.
happy hollidays

well i managed to get the garage cleaned up a little and got the yard cleaned up today. was planning on working on the car all weekend and one thing after another kept comming up. a little advice from an ex professional tire changer, when you go to get that tire fixed for real, be kind and tell the guy it's got fix-a-flat in it. besides being nasty shit to deal with it will also explode if he makes a spark will busting the bead. i noticed your 1 year aniversary on the hamb. the little bit of time i've been on here i've learned from your post and replys. so thanks for the insight.

The Thanksgiving holiday was marred a bit by some disturbing news from back East, but we're dealing with it.
Got some stuff taken care of this week.Painted some truck doors for a customer and finished up a couple mailbox projects that have been laying around too long.
Replaced a fluorescent light fixture that tried to incinerate itself in the attached garage before it burned the house down.Wound up re-arranging stuff in the garage while I was in there. My dog had fun chasing out all the chipmunks she could find.
Did some re-arranging in my other garage so I could set up my lawn tractor for plowing.Had to remove the deck, install the chains and modify the release cable for the plow angle.
Cut up some Lexan sheeting(used)that someone gave me into useable squares and tried painting a couple panels with them. Will keep them for show car signs. All in all a reasonably productive weekend.

My weekend was great, took off early from work Wed. to make pies,
cooked all day Thurs. (ate WAY too much)
Worked on a good friends older Chevy van a good part of Fri. helpin' him get ready for a move to any hime.
worked on making a work space in the garage and bought the wrong king pins for the coupe Sat.
Today I replaced the leaky rear wheel seal on the coupe that's been buggin' me for too long and did more garage cleaning.
while cleaning I found something I think I'll offer up to a local young HAMBer

I had a buddy haul off the carcus that was a 50 Ford tudor parts car from beside my garage. We then went to PA to pick up a nice 52 Chevy 2 dr parts car to put in place of the previously mentioned 50 Ford. My GF and I started stripping a few goddies off the Chevy today. I did other misculanious honey-do tasks at various times through out the weekend as well. Hung out here too.

I did a lot this wekend. Besides the house stuff like getting the Christmas stuff down and putting up the lights, I got a lot of work done on my cars.
Installed the blown nailhead back into the 63 Riviera, by myself. Sam came by the next day and we finished getting all the stuff hooked up and it's real close to ready to fire up.
Sold a few parts off the 60 Olds, so gave my wife some Christmas fun money to spend. In all a good weekend with lots of good work completed.

I had the job fri and sat of babysitting for the first time [by myself] my 2-1/2 yr old Grandson!never a dull moment....and I see why my daughter is stressed now......all in all fun tho. I also went to an auction today- I went to buy 245- 20 foot sticks of new 1-1/2"tubing.....but some one was much more desperate for it than I was!it brought close to normal price so I passed.....I did stumble onto a buy or two tho - I bought several hundred feet of wire on a roll[18ga] with 6 wires in a sleeve for 3dollars![use for taillight wires?] and another buy was [three] large rolls of thick fibreglass matt 6" wide by about two feet around!NEW and only 4.00 total!I usually waste my time going to these sales-but was only farmers there so I lucked out a little today.......

on saturday ,i started finishing the rest of the floor on my farm truck,..trans tunnel, patching up holes and started trying to figure out a shifter,,, it was cool, but then i got writers block.....
then sunday ,i woke up,had a bowl of menudo,,,started to work on the truck, but then got shut down and went to go bid on a car to paint... it was a shity mustang, but the guy wants to redo it in Kandy,,,then right after that i got to hang for a lil bit with a chapter of CRIPS here in kentucky....no matter what you may think of kentucky,..i gotta say, i grew up in very shitty parts of L.A. and THESE people were hardcore...and having a DAMN good time...
i wish i had more time to kick it with them, but had to split...
then i got home,,,and since it was such a hot day here(up to the 50's!) i decided to take the harley for a ride, rode around Vago stlye, then grilled out and drank some beer...thats it....

While driving to Detroit early sat morning, we watched a new truck spin out on the black ice in front of us....he caught the guardrail and went end for end over it. I didn't hit him. Got my car stopped and called for the ambulance....waited with him till it arrived.
The next (and spooky) excitement came four hours later in the form of a phone call from my brother. My nephew got a helicopter ride to the hospital from the scene of his accident earlier in the day....you guessed it...he lost control, hit a guardrail and flipped. He's alive, but broken and stitched.
Other than that, just the usual vehicle maintenance out in my driveway.

had a 4 day weekend from school so what was sweet, of course I didnt get anything done on thrusday. Borrowed a plasma cutter and cut the shitty parts of the floor (meaning over half of the floor lol) out of my 68 ford, and got the patch panels cut out of my perfect floor parts car. I ended up using cutoff wheels mostly (didnt like the plasma cutter as much as I thought I did). Pulled the 302 and C4 out (front fenders off so severely simple). Then I pressure washed the whole car, inside and out, top and bottom, with an industrial sized DIESEL pressure washer with 1500 pounds of pressure and boiling hot water. Lifted the front of the car with a forklift about 10 feet off the ground so I could get a good job underneath. Did the washing today for a grand total of SEVEN hours. At least I can say it is SPIC AND SPAN now. That pressure washer with heat is EXCELLENT for getting grease and even tar off. School again tomorrow, so bullshit and dreamin till saturday........................Briggs

Went to Ohio to have turkey with my brothers family and my mom. Spent Sat. morning with some great HAMB guys and our own pinup girl Denise at breakfast, after which we stopped at Frank's Antique where I picked up Issue #23 of the Rodders Journal. Left Frank's and was followed by Kustombuilder to my house where he dropped off a Buick nailhead for my engine collection. Spent some time helping the wife with christmas decorations and working in the shop trying to get enough room to bring my 'NEW' F1 in out of the coming snow.

Ah fuck Hatch that is funny shit.. I had an okay weekend. I got a lot of new art done which was nice to get caught up on stuff for myself. Washed and detailed my 84 Parisienne to the fullest extent including new air freshner woo hoo!
I am thankful for one thing though. My brother struck black ice and rolled his 96 Jetta VR6 on Friday morning. He is okay and I am so thankful for that. Yeah the car was cool and it sucks that it is toast but my brother walked away with just cuts and I am so glad for that.

LMAO Hatch. For an old bugger, you're pretty funny. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I started Saturday off with a quick surf (great waves, but my surfing SUCKED!), then headed to the opening of Australia's 2nd KRISPY KREME store where I caught up with Carps. After a couple or 4 doughnuts, Carps and I headed over to Pep's place to check out the '37 roadster he's building. It's looking good.
We then headed WAY across town to the clubrooms (the Pres's garage) of Northern Beaches HRC where they were working on some trophies for an upcoming run. Although I didn't offer any help or artistic talent to the making of the trophies, I did have Krispy Kreme Doughnuts which were muchly appreciated by all and sundry.
After that Carps had to piss off to some corporate wank fest on Sydney Harbour and I headed out to a Christmas Tree trimming party back across town. I think we did over 100 miles in the day!
Carps took his camera, so maybe we'll see some pics.
Sunday was just a bit of a BBQ at a little park on Sydney Harbour with some friends. Sunshine, beer and a great view. No Hot Rods though.

Saturday, I finally put something toghether for the Triumph project, instead of taking stuff apart... I polished the engine side covers the week before and Saturday I assembled the shifting mechanism and clutch thingy which is inside the rear right cover.. Sorry but I can't find the right words for it right now http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif...
Saturday night I got piss drunk while watching this killer blues band called "Cuban Heels", from Amsterdam...
And last night I won an E-bay auction for some beautiful white Beck grips for the Triumph...! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I worked, and worked.... got a temp job at Wallyworld and my feet are killing me. I'm a cart chaser, I mean Courtesy Clerk. And all the heavy shit I had to take out for customers and try to fit into cars. I don't know how many 27" TVs I had to force into a seat, some didn't go. Those people had to call someone with a truck to come save them.
I did work at my friend's shop friday morning. We had to go get the parts VW and haul it 10 miles to his shop just so we could cut off some body panels needed. The shop is where the tools are and we are covered form the rain. We then pulled the crispy engine out of it (it had a typical fire, lost engine and interior).
Met up with Humbolt and had pizza one night.
Original turkey day plans had been changed, was going to go down with my girlfriend to her dad's. But since she dumped me a couple of weeks ago....
