Just picked up some '47 Chevy 2-dr rear fenders http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif at a garage sale http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif for a really good price http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif so I can earn some dough for my project http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Question: What other years/models of Chevy/GM cars do the '47 Chevy rear fenders (2-dr) physically interchange with? Don't care about molding holes, but am asking about fit of the fenders. Anyone know these "bombs" real good?

Looks like 41-48 olds, pontiac and certain buicks. According to the 29-52 interchangable guide, anyway.

41 to 47 Ponchos are different because of the stamped-in speedlines behind the wheelwell openings. I've seen guys use 'em on chevys for a different look. Also, my 48 pontiac had a gas filler door on the left rear fender while a chevy doesn't use a door...in fact, the bidness coupes didn't have the filler in the fender at all...was in the right 1/4 panel.

41-48 are the same, only diff is the gas tank hole, like stated above, business coupe filler is in quater panel, not in the fender....Scott

They'll bolt up to the Old's and Pontiacs but the Olds and Pontiacs are wider due to the wider tread width of those two cars.

Wow, now I'm starting to think that a positive ID on these fenders is going to be tough! Keep the info coming tho'...

At some point in 42 before cessation of domestic production, iron was more scarce than aluminum was. And (I'm guessing) they made parts of cars usually made of steel from aluminum instead!!! I may be totally fulla shit on that, but it's the only explanation I've got for finding an aluminum DSR fender in the back of a 40's Chevy!

GM made the "blackout" Pontiacs in '42 to save chrome for the war effort but I never heard of aluminum fenders on GM products...new one on me.
Ford used some aluninum in their floor pans and toe boards tho.

.......and as far as Pontiacs and Olds being wider? There were several different body shells for Pontiacs and Olds' cars. The fenders were the same I think but the difference in widths was in the body shell itself. My 48 Pontiac was the wide one. The narrow version of my '48 torpedo was actually a chevy body shell which wasn't nearly as good looking IMHO...

Enjenjo's got the fender now. So I can verify that I'm not fulla it! At least in that it exists!

Ok, ok, Rooster.... I believe ya. I just never knew about them but I'm not the see-all, end-all expert on the topic either. Or any other topic, for that matter. [I only play an expert on the HAMB] It'd be cool to polish a set of 4 of those fenders for your black fleetline or sumthun....

I am surprized that Denise hasn't chimed in on this. She told me all about the interchangables when I saw her car the first time, and I am sure she mentioned something about the chevy's... How they were different perhaps?

Oh, no offense taken, just that I figured some other readers may dismiss it as BS. Your note of other panels having been made of alum, even tho by Ford and the different GM bodyshells is something I never knew of and find interesting! Woulda been WAY cooler to find a Pair a them fenders, like you said, polish em!!! I'da hauled that ole 2-sd outa the yard just to have something to hang em on!!! As it was I thought it'd make a cool jalopy racer. Got crushed before me, or enjenjo got ahold of it...
