Hi Guys. I Alan Hawkins from Murphy NC. Our local club is the Greasepit Misfits I am one of the founders. I currently drive daily a 32 5w built by me from scratch in 16 months. It is an old school style and a definate nostalga era based build. I am currently builing a Volksrod roadster pickup which is coming along well. I strived very hard to make the back of the cab like a 30 31 Model A roadster pickup. I plan to use a Model A bed, but dont have one yet. I look forward to making new friends I hope.

Thanks for the cool welomes from everyone. Firstnomad expressed interest in my roadster pickup. It has been a blast to build so far and will prove to be much fun. OK guys I know its not a 32 or a 50 Merc, but it takes the same talent, and tools to achieve this radical kustom work. Go ahead I am hunkered down so chuck away.

tirezna1,

What is the outside measurement side to side at the bottom of the doors on your VWster Pickup?

Cross pollination is one way to get new outcomes to old problems.

I for one like to see what other creative people are doing with their tallents.

The average Hot Rod magazine proves that inbreeding is alive and well in this hobby.

Thinking outside the box is what drives progress while it also drives some out of their minds.

I like to start with parts and build something that pleases me.

I would cringe if someone took a Duzenberg and made a rat rod out of it.

I would also think that they were a good candidate for a padded cell.

But to take a Model A Ford or a VW bug that they made millions of and that there are still hundreds of thousands of examples and millions of parts for is a different thing.

Henry used good tin on his Tin Lizzies and early Fords.

The Germans must have done the same with VWs.

Build what pleases you and ignore those who have different ideas.

Thanks Dawford, I will check the measurement tomorrow and get back to you. Thanks for being open minded. I agree the Model A Ford and the VW Beetle {designed in 1937 and retained its basic shape until production end} were mass produced by the millions. Sadly a large portion of the Model A Fords are long gone.So if we want to keep the hobby alive the VW's are one of the few choices young aspireing builders can find within reach of their finances and rescources, unless they build some super tuner crap. Yea I mean kids in high school. Where do you think most of us started out. Little money, a piece of a car, and big dreams. Sincere thanks again for your support.

I just traded up an old Wunderbug 37 Ford style front end and half assed bolted it on after I cut it to fit the Volksrod. I need to move the headlights up and use the longer housing style to look right. By the time I add a Model A bed people will be scratchin thier ass tryin to figure out what it is.:)

Well I have a bed for my roadster pickup. In 1950 my grandfather bought a new Farmall Cub tractor. Shortly after he purchased a trailer made from an old pickup bed. As a child he used to take me and my cousins for a ride in it while he pulled it with the tractor. On Thanksgiving day I went down to the old home place for dinner with my parents. While there I crossed the creek and fought briars and head high weeds to get to the bed still sitting in front of the chicken house where it has been for the last 30 years. I was thrilled to see there was enough of it left for me to use. After much homework I decided it was a 36-38- Mopar bed. The tailgate was missing so I began to search and found one right here on the HAMB, even better it was the generic non logo version. I cant wait to get it in the shop and start cuttin. Also rolled the roadster pickup for a couple of pics.

Many thanks, when I was building my 5w I wished that next I could build a roadster. Sadly the 5w drained me of my last cent to build. But being a true gearhead, I figured out how to build a cool roadster for my low buck budget. Once completed the fun will be priceless .

The roadster pickup shows a lot of imagination. This hobby was founded on imagination---which grew into tradition. Welcome to the HAMB from Rowlett, TX
