Hi People! I was reading the threads on the Coachmen Car Club in Norwalk, California. I want to know where you can view the video from 1955 at Excelsior stadium? I was at that show and graduated from Excelsior in 1955. I just attended our 55th reunion and had a blast. At the reunion we mentioned the Coachmen Car Club and the president Keith Christiansen. I ran around with Keith in grammar school and he was in the band with me at Excelsior all four years. I understand he now lives in Arizona. Strange too about Larry Watson and sad that he passed away. I think just about all the Coachmen had their pinstriping done by him and Barris did most of the customizing. Someone mentioned that the Coachmen had too newer cars for him which is not true. Most of the cars at that show were not members of the Coachmen but were invited to the show. I remember one radical Mercury custom and the owner was not a member and his car was shown at numerous car shows. I used to run around with the Coachmen and always went to Big Bear where they rented a whole resort for a week before Xmas. I also ran around with the Vagrants car club and Ron Sowma who was a member.
The thread about the Coachmen brought back a lot of memories and they were a great bunch of guys as well as the Vagrants. I got a kick out of the mention of the Clock drive-in where we hung out all the time and Harveys' Broiler in Downey which is now reopened as a Bobs Big Boy I understand from my son!
I am too old now for customs as I sold my 1957 Chevy BelAir in 1984. Plus, I quit working on my old Scout and Model T too hard to do all by yourself! Hang in there with customizing makes the cars better than new!

I'm guessing that you must be around 73yrs here, and that isn't too old for Custom Cars. It makes you think, and feel younger.................trust me, I'm right ! I have a good friend who still shows on the circuit, and he's 75, I don't like showing, so I don't, but I am still involved with cars at 71,.............which makes me think about mechanical issues rather than physical issues. I still may ache at the end of a day, but I'm thinking about what I need to do the next day............I apologize for rambling on. Good Luck.
Welcome to the H.A.M.B..................from Arkansas City, KS.

Thanks for the replies you made my day! I did not phrase that correctly I guess. I still love classic cars and customs. We have here in Norwalk, CA a car show of sorts at a restaurant parking lot near Home Depot . Lots of nice customs and old 57 Chevy Belairs (two-door hardtop) like I used to own. It is just at my age, you guessed it right 73, it is hard to lift a transfer case by yourself into a 68 Scout. No problem with installing a Petronix ignitor or rebuilding the old Holley carb and adding new parts that are lightweight. Also, I loved the pics of the 1960 Pontiacs! I saw one the other day on the freeway a convertible no less. I owned a 1960 Bonneville tudor with three two barrels (power pack) heavy duty rearend and transmission and heavy duty radiator. Now that car was a screamer at the drags. One of my first cars was a 1951 Olds Rocket that had two four barrel carbs on an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, three-quarter cam, and mallory coil and a dual point setup in distributor. I can remember when the 55 Chevys came out with the V8 and stick shift and I used to eat them up in a cloud of smoke. Ah the good old days, but these days, except for the economy, custom cars are still the rage! Thanks for comments and have a great day!

Welcome to the HAMB. You have quite a history already laid out with Kustoms and Hot Rods, I hope you don't throw in the towel. I'm sure there are guys to help you with the things you can't lift.
