57 Belair engine mounts

I am learning that there are 4? When I got the car there were only 2 up front and then the tranny mount. Anyone know how/where the other two go? Or is there a solution other than rear engine mounts? It seems like the engine I just built moves more than it should.

4 original style mounts, 2 up in front, next to the timing cover, 2 that bolt to the bellhousing.
When someone converts it to la late model style, they should convert it to side mounts up front, under the exhaust manifolds, to use a single trans mount, in the rear.
Some guys leave the original front mounts, and use a single tranny mount, but that's really not a secure way to go, the engine can twist too much on those mounts. The are also too far apart in that set-up.

I've also heard of breaking transmission cases too, because the span between the front and rear mounts is too great.

my 56 is the same way. i use to have front engine mounts and a rear transmission mount. i have never broke a transmission case but i did go through a couple of transmission mounts. i ended up installing a set of side engine mounts from danchuk cause i put a early 70s block in mine that have the side engine mount pad.

Some people are telling me that the 4 point mount works great and can handle a bunch of power... But no one seems to know where to get the rear mounts. Any ideas?

Never mind. The original frame mounts have been cut out. Gotta come up with something else.

what kind of engine are you running? is it the original with no side engine mount pads?

If the rear mounts are gone, and the block you have has side mounts, use the side mounts and a rear crossmember.
Basically just mounting it like the later model's.

I have a '57 that is using the stock front mounts and the stock bell housing mounts.
I havn't personally had any probs this way yet.....but i'm not all that crazy about the way the tranny's just hanging in the wind. I'll eventually change it around.

When I got it it had a 350 in it that needed to go away. I ended up building a 355 and put that in. Works great, but it is a torquey engine and I don't like the movement I see.

The mounts on the front of the engine are not that stout. If your car still had the bell housing mounts you probably wouldn't have as much movement.
The BH mounts are pretty damn strong.
The only thing keeping yours from "rocking" are the stock fronts.
Pick up a set of the aftermarket frame mount's and install the side mounts on your 355. that should take care of whats buggin ya.
