Have a rusty 1980 International Scout (long wheel base) with very strong running diesel and running gear. Since have not been able to get reansonable offer for engine, thinking of a body swap to make it into a small pick up using something about size of Dodge Dakoda or (extended) cab & chassie flat bed using the front part of ford van body. The van is my preference unless the work would be considerably more.

What kind of trouble should I expect?

How close do the wheel track widths have to be? . . . Will raising the body give me more leaway?

How close do the body mounting points have to be between the two vehicles? . . . or is it easy to make or weld the body mounts from the replacement body on to my scout frame.

Is it necessary to get a body with a clutch since scout is straight shift?

All info & suggestions appreciated..

Take a tape measure to the junkyard. The Dakota is going to be much wider and longer than the Scout. All vans are unibody and are a bitch to get off the frame. What does this have to do with hot rods? Go find a Scout message board and do an intro.
