I'll keep this short, but my dad who is your typical "street rodder" has a 38 piss yellow chevy, and currently building a "modern" rod outta his 32 chevy 5 window~same car he hand his dad hot rodded in 63! but this thing has a vette rearend, tublar a-arms and all that crap, plans for one of them 350 TPI motors! Since i've owned my 54 chevy with the stovebolt, he keeps checking the motor out, thinking and thinking till he finally thought his 32 would look even cooler with a inline in it. Told me to keep my eyes open for one for him! I almost shit myself when he said that...so the search began...and a great HAMBer turned me onto his dad's 235 (thanks Craig) and now this modern day rodder is changing his ways to how he built them back in the day...he's happy as a kid at X-mas, he got his hands on a 235 vette motor, offy 3 x 1, fenton split, dual point vac advance dist.
I'm so proud of my pops

Hey isn't it great to see our Dads rebuilding 'em the way they usta? My dad also has a '32 Chevy. Two door, but its kinda back the way they woulda done it back in the day. Primer black, Krylon flames and chrome steelies, raw chop and no glass, for now. The second build since '71.

It was called the "Blue Flame" six, and it came with a mild cam and
3 Rochester single bbls. You could only get the car with a power glide at first- Luckily, the 265 V8 came out in 55 and the car started picking up some power with a 3 speed manual...
I reallt dig the 53 -55 Corvettes; They are cool lil' cars. It would be fun to find a primered beater to hot dog around in, and piss off all the machismo Vette goobers.

I thought they had side draft carbs, to fit in with all the European race cars.

3 sidedraft Carter Y models, same basic carb later used on turbo Corvairs and Turbo Olds F85's.

That is too cool! Your pretty damn lucky!
PBR...I'm glad it went to someone that had a project to use it in. When my Dad found out about it, I told him he should buy it, just 'cause it was a cool odd hot rod motor and just keep it "in case". Its better that you guys picked it up and have a project for it.
I'm anxious to see it in your pop's ride.
Yeah, my dad is pondering a build with my 54 Wagon and my 265. He just likes em like when he was younger.

cool, but...
you said he has tubular independent front end, vette rear,,,
it just kinda seems like a total mis match of this engine and this car? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I agree totally. Mismatch of styles. I think he needs the 396 BBC I have in the garage (we'd trade of course http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ). I'll even through in a brand new dual quad intake for it and a matched set of carter AFB's that originally came on a 58-6? 348-409!
Ok, you should probably know the BBC needs rebuilt.
You can't blame a guy for trying!

opps, tubular a-arms, rack front end disk brakes all over, crap like that, but he's also planning on running stock style wire wheels, for some reason he's pulling away from his "street rodder" life... he actually listened to me telling him his 38 would look much better with chrome reverse rims www, and gettin ride of that god awful yellow for black and flames....gotta keep working on him
