Hi all,

Been wanting to join up for quite a while - finally went for it!

I've been into old cars since my dad gave me his old 50' ford back in 1960.
Since then, I, like everyone else (probably) "tore up" a few, broke many and had to learn how to fix 'em in self defense! Since I retired a year ago, I've been on a kick to finish my 31' Ford coupe street rod project and, I was doing good on it until I decided to "get fancy". When I initially positioned the 302 Ford/c-4 combo (out of a 73' Maverick) in the boxed A frame about ten years ago, I used the original radiator as a guide to weld in the motor mounts. After I got the much thicker Walker radiator, (I was thinking A/C would be nice!) I learned (the hard way!) that stock 302's have l-o-n-g water pumps and now my fan clearance was gone! Then it was the electric fan game - that coupled with the ford "shorty" water pump (plus assorted pulleys, etc.) was supposed to solve everything. Ha! Now I'm reading on THE H.A.M.B. about 94'-95' Mustang short pumps and timing covers -- thanks guys for the photos and tips -- It's off to the bone yard for more parts!! Maybe that will work!!

Welcome aboard.
Great to see another '31 Coupe being preserved for future generations of Hotrodders.

Thanks for the welcome guys! In last two days I've roamed two wrecking yards and found some waterpump bolts that "may" fit my shorty ford waterpump as well as a five blade fan that "may" fit the new pump after I drill out the hub a little -- when I asked where were all the "old" cars being kept (?) I was told that with the price of scrap at about $125- $150 per ton, that they were being crushed!! Tomorrow to the "Pic n' Pull" for another hunting expedition!! These damn pulleys are more complicated than they first appear!!

Howdy Tex! I was born in San Antonio so, I have a liking for Texans and all things Texas (with the possible exception of Lackland AFB which I had the "pleasure" of visiting in 1964!

I fully agree with your comment of how to create a small fortune! I'm in the process of doing that right now - every trip to the bone yard for parts that may or may not actually fit reminds me of the truth of your statement!!
