Does anyone on this site have any pictures of early lakes pipes made using 35/36 Ford hollow driveshafts?
I'm planning on replacing the home made lakes pipes I built for my highboy. They were made from parts store replacement pipes and reducers welded together. It's time to make new ones that are more true to the period I tried to build the car to represent.

I used the 35/36 inside shaft to make the pipes on the Lo1. Much easier than I thought it would be. Bought a couple U bends from speedway and cut to fit. I think the 35/36 tapered shaft is hard to beat in the looks department. Do it.....its fun and rewarding. Steve

those ford torque tube exhaust were cool and sounded great on the street, we always referred to them as "Dump tubes or Dumpers, sometimes they were confused with the Megs or megaphones. haven't thought about those for years I think my Hemi car needs a pair thanks http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mecutem..That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the reply.
Do you have any pics with those beauties installed on a car?
Now I have to find a shaft for my project.

Is ther any trick to getting the tailshaft out fo the torque tube???
I got a "spare" 36 tailshaft to build a set of headers for my coupe, and am having a real hard time getting it out. (Unilke what happens in life where you have a hard time getting it in!!)

I bought some like the one's Wasasedan posted from Squeak Bell. They aren't listed on his web site, but his contact details are. See http://www.kiwikonnection.com

Paul I'm sure you've seen the the roadster at York with the torque tube headers and the expanded metal heat shields. He told me the torque tubes were too heavy so he used the tapered header tube and made his own 6 bolt scalloped flanges and block off plates using the torque tube flange as a pattern. Much lighter and still has the look!

If anybody wants to fab custom cones, send me the dimensions (I.D. at small end, I.D. at big end, and overall length) and I can Email an Autocad "dwg" template full scale that you can have plotted at any printing business that handles engineering stuff. You can trace the template on to the sheet steel, cut it out and any competent sheet metal shop can roll it for you. That way you get exactly what you want.
I did the "Offy" header on my midget that way. Oh, yes....no charge ! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Paul, remind me next week.
I'm going to be picking up a 39 frame from the same guy I got several sets of 35-6 rear bones from.
If I can snag the tubes I will, he is usually very cheap on the prices.
Might have to take the complete rear, minus bones of course!

Tommy, I'm not planning on using the torque tubes, I'm looking for the hollow tappered driveshaft that was only used on the 35/36 and I'm told early '37. Here is the picture of the torque tubed roadster you mentioned.

286merc,
I'll remind you. Thanks for the reply. No problem taking the whole rear end as long as I don't have to take out a loan.
