After reading Issue 24 of The Rodders Journal I thought I would ask you guys if anyone knew of the Stu Hilborn streamliner and what happened to it or where it could be now. I recall that Bruce Meyer was searching for it a while back. The car broke one of its wire wheels in 1947 at El Mirage causing the car to flip and almost cost Hilborn his life. Originally four banger powered, Hilborn fitted a V8 with a Miller 4 carb intake (only one made) and then later tested his fuel injection on it. Eddie Millar Jr repaired the car while Hilborn was in hospital. The streamliner became the first car to break 150mph. Grant Piston Rings bought the car as a promotional tool and the last anyone say of it was as a dragster in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area in 1954. Where is it now?

After talking to Bruce Meyer at Autorama last year I'm convinced the car no longer exists. If you know Bruce you can bet he did a thorough search. He related how he followed every lead that turned up and they all were dead end. There is of course a chance someone will find it, if it happens to be you give Bruce a call he probably has a big check waiting.

It is a shame that something that cool can slip through the cracks.
