I am fascinated with a couple of what I like to call Kustom Rodz. One being Rodriquez wich I saw in an article of Rod and Custom. The car was built in Japan and mixes Kustom and Rod traits for a perfect blend of sweety goodness. The other being the Taang Coupe wich is a 32 Ford 3 window coupe that also blendz kustom with rod. I had the pleasure of seeing this car at the summer nationals in Worcster Ma. I also talked to the builder and after looking at the car for a while I fell in love with the car. I think my next rod project I would like to do a kustom rod. Not a high zoot car but a car that acheives a the perfect blend of traditional rod and kustom to form a zen like state where ever it travels.

If anyone has some pics of cars like these I would love to see them.

Yeah Lil Deuce coupe aint that bad. A like the grill shell but not crazy on the modified running boards. But it all comes down to taste, and that is up to the individual. I love the stuff the Ed Roth does but I still want it to have many aspects of the origanal car. Just enhanced like a kustom. Rodriguez just really sticks out to me becuase that car just seem to have the look. Its the kind of car that sucks you in for a 2nd look and then a 3rd.

It would be awsome if you could post or send some of those pictures to me. The only ones I have seen where the ones in the article. I wish I could see the car in person, so I could get a real good feal for the car as a whole.

Here's a couple of pics of an old Aussie Custom Rod. It's called "Sedoupe". Was built from a Sedan and shortened to a Coupe... get it... Sedoupe. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Apparently when it first hit the show scene it was like something from outer space. I'm not usually a fan of this style of Hot Rod, but I like this one for some reason. Maybe because it's such a survivor.

Spoke with the guy that built Rodriguez a while back. Apparently its having some more work done to it and should be shown in its new guise next weekend at the Yokohama Mooneyes show. I'll be going so if its there I'll get a photo for you.

That would be cool if you could get some pics of the revamped car man.

Yeah the car above is cool but I aint really diggin on the paint scheme either. But the grill shell is cool. Has some cool things done to it.

Take a look through early-thru-mid-60s Car Craft and you'll see plenty of these types of cars. They are commonly called "show rods". Roth and Barris ushered in the look. All of the details were molded and smoothed. Go back to the original source material for inspriation (and ignore your Z key http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif).

the sedoupe is cool. repaint it to an earlier style and change the wheels and tires and it would be right on.

Yep, I agree with the comments on the paintjob. It's kinda wild, but sedate in its use of colours. The thing is, as I said before, it is unrestored so it would be hard to redo the paint.

I'm a little concerned though that the new owner is not really keeping with the sytling of the era. From memory he's fixed up the motor and it is running some kind of mullet mobile rocker covers. Even things like the plug leads look too "new". Being pedantic I know, but if you've got something like that, you might as well make it as authentic as you can.

Looks like it was influenced a lot by the Little Duece Coupe on the Beach Boys album.

This will always be my all time favorite "custom/rod".
