I'm Brad, from Fort Worth, Texas. And no, I don't usually say "howdy!" :)
Ok, here's the convoluted chain of thought (and events) that brought me to this board:
I'm a WWI aviation enthusiast, and currently working on a WWI aircraft replica. Not really relevant to the board, but I've done a bit of research on Model A engine conversions for future reference.
A number of the folks involved with the fun side of the WWI aviation hobby also are interested in period vehicles. Not "I'm gonna build a 100-point showcar" but more of a whimsicle approach just for fun.
Which brings me to my personal interest: "Brass era speedsters." Same time period, same "devil may care" type of look and feel as early aviation.
Now, SOME of my personal ideas on this may not sit well with the traditional folks, and I apologize if that is the case. For example, using a period correct engine/drivetrain- probably not. I honestly prefer the reliability (and lower expense) of a more modern drivetrain... and in particular the familiar modern control layout. (although I think the Mercer pioneered that configuration)
On the other hand, I want the "look and feel" of a 1900-1920 "speedster." Just a radiator, hood, and cowl, and pair of buckets with a gas tank behind... "monocle" windscreen... that sort of thing. The Mercer, Stutz, etc... I love the look of them all... but the realistic option for me is probably a readily available (and infinitely more affordable!) Model T.
Right now I'm just daydreaming... we'll see what happens.
