Been here awhile- not much of a poster- but I seem to get caught up lurking for hours on end sometimes!! Man there are some talented people building some amazing rides on here!
Anywho-
I live in the little town of Jackson in SW Mn- some dirt track people on here will reconize that name right away- we've had a track here FOREVER. I grew up around winged sprints as well as a fair amount of hot rods. My grandpa was a big fan of the races as well as my dad, I on the other hand am not all that big of a fan- I guess I would prefer to build one as opposed to watching them.
I'm a agronomist by trade-specializing in precision farming, I farm a little on the side and run a tractor restoration shop as well. I do a little antique tractor pulling as well. The tractor scene is getting a little old for me and I've always wanted to build a rod-as well as my dad, and now my 5 year old son thinks its cool. The wife thinks its a cool scene as well- and should give us something more to do together, especially since she really dosent like bikes.
I'm ford blue to the bone and got a pretty good parts pile going for my first build. I got a 46 ford grain truck (FREE- ha ha ha). Being a farm boy a pickup was the only way for me to go anyway and I love the looks of a chopped and low fenderless traditional rod so thats the route I'm headed. I'll be going with a 351W stroked to 393 for the mill the way it looks backed with a 5 speed out of a mustang more then likely (as my dad always says- "you cant have a slush box in a rod")
I'm saving the flatty outa the truck for the next build.
My dad raced 1/4 midgets back in the 50's so the plan is for shows to have his car in the bed once that gets done hopefully this winter.
MAN- if thats not a introduction I dont know what is- theres my life and heres a couple pics of some of the tractors I've done and my dads 1/4 midget to get it going.
