I called the local parts store today for a gasket kit for my 235. The guy asked me if I wanted the full copper head gasket or the composition gasket. I have no idea what the difference is other than physical make-up. Is one better than the other? Which one is right for my '54? I don't have any hop-up stuff going on with the engine, so wouldn't think it needs anytrhing special.

Thanks for your help, this caught me totally off guard.

I think I would get the composition gasket for a stock application.

if you got the solid gasket you could theoretically re-use it,if it was annealed properly-george

You want the Composition design, copper gaskets WILL leak coolant. What year engine do you have? The '50-52 use a different gasket than the '53-62's.

Sorry...I see it's a '54.
FelPro #7619B is for the head gasket only.
FelPro #FS7619B-3 is for a complete gasket set.
Hopes this helps.

Thanks for the tip Glenn, it does help.
Now if the parts place can get the stuff before the snow falls I'll be all set http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks again,
