View Full Version : SEATTLE AREA HAMBERS! free lift(s)
My company is starting a new job in Seattle and the temp offices are to be in an old truck maintanance shop space.
There are what sounds like four of the old style single cylinder in-ground pneumatic lifts to come out that have been offered to me.
I have not seen them yet and it's not a total done deal,
I already have one and only have room for one more so,,
If there's a HAMBer or two in the area...
Anybody interested?
If so I will try to claim as many as I can.
I am going to look at them next week.
did I say they are free?

By in ground, do you mean that the ram of the lift is buried? I may be interested.

i am definately interested in one
OK bad,
we'll have to see how it all pans out,
if it all works out I will most likely haul them all home and store them till I find them homes.
I would hate to see them go in the dumpster!

No need for a lift (wish I had the garage to fit one). Hey though, if you happen to know of anyone or any place where I could store my Vic. over the winter around Seattle I'd sure appreciate a heads up.
I don't have much loot to offer, but I can come up w/ a little somethin' & beer.

I will be interested in one if it has an articulating head. I have an old single post truck hoist that has fixed rails and needs ramps..
Let me know..

mytlo, it doesn't snow over here, I could take it out of the garage and drive it, to keep the seals lubed, etc...

I'm not sure what your dilema is,
do you mean you have a full garage?
or, what kind of equipment would it take to place one?
If it's the same garage I saw,
your ceiling is too low but,
I have seen them installed outside.

<font color="red"> Just remember kids it is illegal in most counties/cities in Washington to have a in ground lift....that is why so many places get pits now a days and others put 4 point lifts....they no longer let ya put them in.....so what I am trying to say is . . . hide the shit from your asshole neighbors!!!!

I had no idea. Ground water contamination issues? I don't even want to ask if its legal here for fear of having someone pay attention...

I will still take one if the line comes down to me! Thanks for the offer. Just PM me and I will be up there with my trailer when you say! Rick
redmeat,
How about for those of us that live outside King and Snohomish
and have a buisiness licence
and we promiss not to put it IN our residence?
how do I check on the legalities involved?
there must be residential building codes available on line.

<font color="red"> Sorry about the yelling earlier I have a cap lock problem.......If you want to find out just do a search online.......I know that the guy who painted my car wanted a second one and the county nixed his idea(he is in industrial).....it has been said that you can do it if you have a full sealed vault(no concrete will not work they turned him down).....the laws may have changed but that was only 3 years ago....HELL if the parts are cheap enough just sneak the shit into your garage in a U-haul and nobody has to see!!........that would be the way to do it!....as for me I am going to let my house keep going crazy in value(mine has went up 39K in last 4 yrs since I bought it!)then sell and move out to the boonies!

If it's an EPA thing I can see them nixing a used hydraulic unit but, frickin' air?
I did do a search and didn't find anything specific right off.
Like I told Tony, if they are too big,
(they are in the old Blue Flame Building truck shop)
or hydraulic,
(too many parts to deal with, lines, filters, pumps, reservoirs)
I don't want to hassle with them.
Paul
just an update here,
I am finaly going to check them out today,
there is one air and three hydrolic,
I am not going to bother with the hydrolics
they are too damn big to be practicle in a home garage.
haven't made up my mind about the air lift though,
for the cost and effort it might make more sence to buy an above ground unit...
what is there though and I am diffinately gunna try to extract is a work bench,
about 3' wide and L shaped with one side 18' long and the other 20' long!
heavy duty old school with diamond plate work surface!
Paul, I bought a 4 post above ground hydrauylic lift.
It is an 8500 pound lift and has dolley attachments to roll the lift around if I want.
Like, if I would want to move it out of the shop to clean under the car.
It is also made so, if I had the additional side ramps, I could drive across the rack with all four wheels hanging if I wnted to change wheels, do brake work or whatever, I could.
It is a $4600.00 lift.
You can get them to sell at a discount, and there are lighter less expensive lifts available.
considering the back hoe, the concrete, and plumbing issues, it looks like the cheapest way to go is with new above ground lift.
Just something for you to consider.
I know free is hard to turn down.

I'm still interested. Let us know what you find when you look them over. I'm rarely in Seattle proper, where is this building?
right downtown at the South end of Lake Union.
I started pulling the work bench out,
man, talk about heavy!
as for the lift,
if I (or whoever) want it I will have to pay for the removal and of course hauling.
it would mean a concrete saw to cut the slab, a backhoe with a breaker to bust the slab, the backhoe to ex around it and yard it out, and load it on a trailer.
then I would have to fill the hole back in and pour the slab back.
then haul and install.
could cost easily a couple grand.

sounds like an ass load of work for a "free" lift.
"free" because it ends up costing so much money and time. and you would still have an old lift.
I was hoping to help someone else out,
I already have one..
