That's kick ass!

I think I sold him that quick change! I bought it out of an old modified racer.

It was an early conversion, I never found out exactly who made it. Most people thought it was a Franklin.

I kind of regret selling it, but it's AWSOME that it is put to good use.

I'd like to know where he got those circular tubes rolled.

Chris - Here's a bit of trivia. I've been told by several respected people that "MILK TRUCK" wheels were never used on milk trucks - so don't waste you time.

That tank is nice. I'm slowly collecting parts for one.

"Milk truck" wheels were not from Divcos. They're accessory high-clearance (18") wheels used on Ford trucks and commercial cars.

That's awesome man. Really cool to see the framework underneath the skin.

"I still swere that I drive by one of those Divco's on the way to my wifes parents house in the St. Louis area"

That wouldn't happen to be the one setting on the north side of I-70 about 20-30 miles west of Wentzville would it? if it is, I'm not sure its still there. I looked for it last time I went to St.louis and didn't see it.

Looks sharp. How did he bend the frame rails?

Very cool, any idea what lakester class it will run? I am also collecting parts for a 4 banger powered lakester.

Blown B-motor, if I remember the drunken conversation correctly... I was told too, exactly what the tires are, but can't remember.... other than being horrendously expensive.

Those tires are Dunlop R1 racing Vintage racing tires. Retail for $350-400 each although after asking around I've heard of them for as little as $250 each.

That quickchange is from a Franklin kit (built it yourself type thing). Karl Kneck in Arlington has a few of them. I see he's got a pair of Franklin drums on the shelf - and a set of E&J headlights too.

I assume he's gonna run this in a Vintage class. As far as I remember, there is only two classes for Flathead fourcylinder lakesters and those are fuel or gas. I don't think there is a blown vintage class available.

Just ran over the the SCTA-BNI site.

When I said "Vintage" I ment the V4 engine designation, not one of the stock bodied Vintage classes.

Lakester class allowable engines:
W, AA, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, XF, XO, XXF, XXO & V4.

Nevermind: Guess that would be BFL/V4 or BFG/V4

I had blown bangers confused with overhead converted bangers! There's no specific mention of overhead valve conversions for bangers like there is for V8 Flatheads.

[/ QUOTE ] There is somewhere(don't know where),because there are a few guys going through alot of trouble to put latemodel heads on old flathead 4 banger blocks.

http://www.scta-bni.org/engine.htm shows two classes that may be relevant:
" V4 Vintage pre-1935 American 4 bangers "
" V4F Vintage pre-1935 American 4 bangers - Flathead "
There are V4 records listed in different classes, but I didn't see any V4F records listed.
The Unblown Gas Lakester V4 record is 179.000 That seems real fast for a flathead 4 banger. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hey Bob,

Yeah, that is the Franklin quick change I bought from you.... how long ago was that? 4 yrs I think.... time flies.

As far as all the other questions go... the frame rails were hand rolled on a roller press to match the inside diamater of the tank body, and the hoops were rolled by true radius bending out of Pomona. We still haven't finished the complete roll cage.
The front axel came off a 60's dragster and the wheels have taken 5 yrs to aquire. I'll keep posting more pics as the project developes.

What size are the tubes? 2"x4" ? What wall thickness ?
I think I need to make a roller press. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
