This is not for a Ford Y Block, it is a 1962 casting for the 302/332 truck block which is based on the Lincoln 317. Not interchangable.

Weren't the 312s ALL in cars anyway? I know the Ram's Horns for Y blocks were truck only items because of the steering box in the car.

Can the heads just be redrilled to accept the bolt pattern? I have been told yes... but my instincts tell me no.

Y Block rams were used in COE's but were available as options for duals in most trucks. I got a set off a 64 F600 which also provided the forged crank for the 292 I built up for my 54 F350.
The 312 has the same manifold pattern as the others (except peanut port early 239's). Altho not advertised nor even indicated on the VIN, the 312 was factory installed in some 63-4 trucks as Ford cleaned out replacement engine inventory.
The 302/332 was derived from the Lincoln 317 and has different center port spacing as well as stud location. There were also a few versions as heads changed over the life of that truck series.

Hey 286merc...Do you know if the 302/332 uses the same bellhousing as the 317? I'm looking to set up a 317 with a stick and early big truck stuff is hard to find,Seems like it would be easier to find the later big truck parts. It would give me more options that's for sure Thanks,Mike

Clarify something for me please. I thought that all the exhaust with a straight bolt pattern were for Y blocks, and if they had a tilted bolt pattern they were Lincolns (and big trucks too). Is this wrong? These here have a straight pattern but they are not Y block Ford?

What are you attempting?? As near as I can decipher from Hollanders the 279, 317, 302, and 332 are all interchangable, up to the flywheel, in 2 1/2 thru 4T trucks. Where it gets real confusing is with the bellhousing. I believe that those with the 4spd or light duty 5spd have the same tranny bolt pattern as any of the flathead and Y blocks. It is the HD 5spd and up that is different. However the 332 was usually used with the HD tranny.

You are correct and I may have been mistaken. Ive been exchanging EMails with the seller to clarify. However Hollanders lists that casting as for a 332 but Ive been burnt by Hollanders before!
What gets confusing is that the truck changed heads and rams a few times over the years.

I'm trying to put a manual transmission behind a '52 Lincoln 317 and I've been told that '52-'54 ford HD trucks are the route to go as far as getting the proper bellhousing.Just trying to find out if the later bellhousing is a possibility. Thanks,Mike

Mike, one thing those truck engines all shared is the use of a 12" clutch. For a 3 pedal rod you might want to redrill the flywheel and go down to a 11/10.5/10" setup. Or go hydraulic.
