From a thread I started ("Short dragster wheelbase?") on the main forum:

...

90" is short... and when I came up with the rules for the HA/GR cars, the idea was formed around this car that I had seen at the Nostalgia Drags in Fremont back in the 80's... that had a T frame... I was 13-14 years old, and got it in my head that my brother and I were gonna build one.

Here it is, and I am guessing it is around a 90" wheel base...

Looks just like a HA/GR car alright. NHRA inspectors nightmare though. Slap another hoop on it and a little aluminum and she's ready to go. Do you climb into it through the big hole you can fall out of too?

For those of you that would like to see pics of the three original HA/GR cars, they can be found on Jim Marlett's web site http://flatheaddrag.com/, then scroll down to H.A.M.B. Drags 2005. He has quite a few pics from that race (It's a happening) with some good shots of the three cars. It's well worth the time to look.
For more detail pics of these three cars check Jim's AHRR 2005 pics.

Yep, that car must have been built around 1952. By 1962, no serious racer would have built anything like that. Our plan was to represent the early days of drag racing. It was a great experience.
