Anyone know what belly tanks go for these days or even where to find one? And no I'm not talking about the ones already made into rods. I'm talking about your typical plane fuel tank with nothing done to it since that day it was made.

Doubtless real WWII "surplus" models are big money these days, but I'm fairly certain someone makes them in fibreglass. Try www.roadsters.com (http://www.roadsters.com) and look in the fibreglass body section.

Ok thanks a lot I'll check there. Don't suppose if anyone knows if these fabled "Airplane Grave Yards" do exist and would actually sell their stuff because I have a hankering to build a late 40's car and want to put some plane parts in it.

LDC437, There is a guy in the Phoenix, AZ area that has three drop tanks forsale. I think he wants around $450 for each of them. My Computer crashed and it is in my Email's that I need to recover. Belly tanks were a LOT more available right after WWII when a lot of planes were decommissioned. They still show up on eBay now and then. Modern planes also have similar tanks, but look less traditional, and are often made of kevlar. Fiberglass is what you can buy new. Take your pick.

Deuce Rails, that isn't actually a Rod & Race body. That is the Kelly & Hall Lakester that I crew on. Jack Kelly did the tooling and later sold that tooling to Rod & Race. By the way, the P-38 Tank I bought yesterday is a real aluminum one. 60 years of rolling around has made it look like a large streamlined aluminum walnut. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifIt's not bad, though and will straighten out nicely. That makes me think you might be able to convert an Oscar Meyer Wienermobile into a belly (or is it wiener-) tanker!. Maybe you want to leave off the bun part for better aerodynamics...

I was at a military surplus yard over the summer looking for cool seats for my cdan but found none. This fellow had an amazing collection of stuff that may include a belly tank. The goods were spread out over a large area & he is not keen on random wanderings. I suspect that he has felt the five finger discount in the past ... because he seemed like a nice guy.
