So which is it, 20010 or 2010? Inquiring minds want to know.
Besides, I rather doubt I'll survive an 18,000 year break.
Sorry Butch, just couldn't resist that one. :D
We'll be there, with bells on.

Dick... Tom aught to have his completed by then.. Just hang loose.....hehehehe
As much as I'd like to be there, the 29 hour, 1,936.72 mile one-way trip is just a little too far. Darn.

I was looking at the ANRA Class page and noticed that HAMB Dragsters are included under the O/W catagory. I know the HAMBsters have always fallen under the O/W cat. but is this the first year Butch spelled it out specifically in the rules? I guess somebody really does love us:D.

Yeah, he does. He'd like to see us succeed, and he's given us more opportunities than anyone else.
Believe me, we know and appreciate it.
I believe he'd been holding off formally adding us to O/W in hopes we could field enough cars for our own class sooner. I wish to hell we could've, for him as well as for the class.
I still think we'll get there one day.

Butch is really behind the class, and hope that you guys can really work with him, looks like a win/win deal.

Well,,, I guesss I had better get started on my HA/GR.. Gotta put on new filter, and fill the pan with oil.. Reset the valves where they belong, And retime the new ignition..Damn, I'm always busting my butt on that car..Oh hell, I think I'll wait till next week... Bwhaaaahaaha...

Hell, I pulled our engine, reworked the chassis, and promptly got interrupted by actual work.
Have the chassis all back together and am trying desperately to find time to put the engine back together.
Looks like the new cooling system'll have to sit on the shelf 'til later in the season.
Knock youself out, ThingyM. It's good you don't have a straight 8. There'd be even more valves to adjust.:)
Old6, you've made some nice changes to the car. I like your shiny combustion chambers.:)
I play the Youtube video of the Eagle Field HA/GR matchup over and over. Sure would like a little video from the upcoming ANRA race. Please???

Bob.. I do ther ones in my altered all the time, Thats 8 cylinders..I relax the valves after every race weekend..With 220# at the seat and 730 wfo.with a 725 lift.. It puts less strain on the everything....
ThingyM (Dick) I was just pulling your chain about all the hard work you had to prepare the Hambster for the upcoming season.:) That's a wild cam in your altered. Makes the engine in my Crosley sound puny. Wishing the best for you with the Hambster this year.
At the risk of getting off topic for this thread....But, I didn't want to start a new thread because the items I'm bringing up probably don't merit it. I have the following questions:
Have ya'll noticed all the HA/GR activity on the Left Coast and the lack of it in the birthplace of the concept? Why aren't there more new constructions or promotion of a race series in the middle of the country?
Also, what happened to SDRA? Did those guys feel snubbed? Are they posting somewhere else? Is there race series alive and well?
Half way around the world we find the hot bed of Hambster racing, then half way across the continent (California) we find the next most active scene. What gives???

Bob.. If you remember, I asked the very samething on another thread."Whats Happening" Answers were, It's to cold here, The ice on the ground makes it hard to get to the shop. etc. etc. I guess we are pretty lucky out here as most of us can do things the year around. Some rain now and then, But thats it.. I know what you guys have back where you are, My Inlaws lived in Maplewood for many years. My mother in law now lives in LaCrosse Wis.. I guess the Okie guys are still working on a couple of cars. And I guess Roy still has his..But your right.. Kinda slow here on the board..Dick M.......

SDRA is alive and well, kinda centered in the Tulsa area.
New cars being built and should have 6 to start the season
at Tulsa with more being built.
We have 11 race dates on schedule at Tulsa alone and trying
to schedule more at other tracks.
Should have at least 8 cars by the end of the year.
The reason no more HA/GR cars are being built is because there
is only one race per year for them in this area, although they
are welcome to race with the SDRA cars at any of their races.
Thanks for the SDRA upate, Q7. I'm glad it is going well.
It appears one of the keys to building and maintaining enthusiasm is organiztion. ANDRA, ANRA & SDRA make racing against each other available. Not to overlook the importance of Eagle Field too.
We have nothing around here like that.

Just a quick update from Sat.
Rocky's car (actually Rocky's son Lee's) ran pretty well after setting all winter with no work done to it.
Dick #1 (Old6) broke his clutch on the line in the first round and went back home to get parts.
Dick #2 (ThingyM) had carb and other problems on top of losing the alum. siding of his trailer coming over the Grapevine. Only managed to hit one car though. Rough first outting for HA/GR cars.
I'll have a pant load of pics later today or tomorrow. Only 3 HA/GR cars. There was a cool flatty power roadster too with a Bantam body (if I remember right) running O/W. Have to wait for an update from the boys for todays action. Momma only lets me out of my cage one day a
weekend:D!
Slightly O/T Rocky was #1 qualifier going into the third round of E/GAS. It's a huge class so hats off to him. Can anybody say ANRA E/GAS Champion three-pete?

Well, the '10 ANRA opener's in the books, and it was a blast as always. Bigger and better each time, this meet's where it's at if you love racing actual nostalgia cars.
Katuna, that's Gary's flattie Bantam, I think I like his car even better'n he does.
As for our HAMBsters, well ...................
We had three show up, Dick Mosely, Rocky & Lee and us. Joe couldn't make it and that really cool Poncho flattie wasn't able to come either.
Dick's Midnight Madness Jr. is still having some teething problems and fought a crapping issue the whole weekend without success. They did manage to squeeze out an HA/GR win Saturday against Lee's manual PG however. With our Saturday no-show that gave Dick the HAMBie for this meet.
Sunday was another story, theirs to tell.
Lee's car toasted another third gear just prior to the meet and had to function with only first and second, not impossible in the bracket race that Open Wheel is. He dialed in to suit his situation and gave'er hell.
Unfortunately, in Saturday's HA/GR action he couldn't hold off the Madness on the top end and conceded that race.
I'll let him relay his Sunday efforts in Open Wheel himself.
The barn Job ....... :(
I pulled'er to the line beside Lee Saturday and did my burnout. When I backed off & clutched'er to end the burnout she bucked and stalled just before the line. I neutralled & reflamed'er but she'd no longer release the clutch, couldn't put'er in first (or any other gear). So I killed'er and the good folks on the line rolled me out of the way.
First check found an absent clutch finger by feel (I'll relate the particulars later, on our build thread). Decided on a five hour round trip parts chase back to the house for enough parts to cover several possible causes.
Got back just as they were finishing the last round of quals, no way to get in a run Saturday. Spent the evening between the dinner/awards get-together and wrenching. Turned out the pressure plate was in four pieces. Hadn't blown per se but had broken at low tach, like that aussie one. Had to settle for a clutch change-over to a 10" pick-up one I had on the shelf (notorious for not liking the tach). Got it done and went to bed.
With no time from quals I couldn't compete Sunday so Butch was kind enough to let me run exhibition following O/W class. With the 10" plate in mind I kept the tach below 5000. I burned'er out, lined'er up and she slipped the clutch badly all the way through first. I grabbed second only to hear that grenade sound immediately. Killed'er and got'er off the lane and stopped as quick as I could.
Got out, helped with the pieces collecting and helped load'er up on the tow platform.
That was it. Two burn-outs, one launch, one gear, never made it to the traps once. Later inspection showed it'd cost me a block as well as the two pressure plates.
The good thing is that my scatter shield did its job as designed and allowed only two bits to get airborne. These in a direction resulting from an unusual "twist" of events and at low enough speed to not travel far (I'll cover that elsewhere as well).
Anyway, here're some pictures from the pits (where we spent far too much time ), a couple of the second clutch and one of the HAMBie presentation.

another sacrifice given to the god of speed, as dissapointing as it must have felt, it's comforting to see that the safety elements are showing their worth.
Great to see you guys 'shining the light', trust you still enjoyed the opportunity despite the frustrations.
Cheers,
