EVEL is awesome Dave!

I'm hopped up on meds and Nyquil, hopefully I can make a coherent post. It was way cool being a the Detroit Autorama last weekend....I was amazed at how many people came up to me and said they followed the Friday Art Show every week :D!!! It really is a blessing to be a part of such a ridiculous amount of talent in one concentrated area.

This week's charity bike (http://yearofthechopper.blogspot.com/2010/03/steve-mcqueens-triumph-from-great.html) is Steve McQueen's Triumph from "The Great Escape." I even posted a little clip of the jump on my blog.

The toilet dude is awesome. I want one! I spent most of the day in the garage framing up an eight foot tall Moai that I'm going to cover in concrete and put, along with four others, out by the concrete Easter Island bar I build last summer. Also a crappy shot of some CD racks I built in the garage.

Hello, this is my first post, I was told about this board by someone else and I wish I had looked long ago, some great stuff here. The piece I attach is a print made from an original oil on canvas, I would appreciate any feedback. I am from a technical background so the 'other' side of my brain is where most of my experience lies. To everyone that has posted their work, GREAT STUFF!

It was on display at Gasoline Gallery in El Segundo. Hope you enjoy.

HIDDEN and Meteor! Love the stuff!
Slightly off topic, but I still see a lot of motorcycle art here, I did a t-shirt design this week for Vintage Torque:
http://car-n-art.com/hamb/VT_BOBBER_ART_small.jpg
Unsure of what exact colors J Wells wants to run, but I heard charcoal is one color I'd love to see it on. Here were some ideas mocked up:
http://car-n-art.com/hamb/VT_BOBBER_OPTIONS_small.jpg

and because I'm the proud papa that I am, here is a couple quick pics of my son at Autorama here in Detroit at the Road Devils Display riding an old Taylor Tot:

WOW great show! Actually I mean, this is a great show, and the World of Wheels Chicago is going to be a great show this weekend!!! It's in the suburbs the year, at the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center near O'hare Airport. It's a fan-friendly place and has great atmosphere. The Motorama section has the more traditional Rods and Kustoms. This is the T shirt I did for VooDoo Larry as the give-away to those entrants. I'll be there. Please stop by and say hi...

I had a blast last weekend in Detroit in the Basement. We had 10 Hot Rod artist's (Josh Welton (Brown Dog Welding), Todd Jones, Chad Lampert, Keith Weesner, Mark Weaver (Weaverville Studios), Max Grundy, Todd Fee, Mark Thompson, Tom Metz, and me!) in the "Artist's Alley" near Single Finger Speed Shop and the 3:00 Meet and Greet. I can't wait to hang with those guy's again next year!!!

That's quite an up-date-like the scoop, looove the headlights.

Thanks. the inspiration came from my friend Eric Brockmeyer who was "playing around" with a design like this. I was trying to figure something different to do to some of my models of this car when I saw Erics rendering and he told me I could run with it. I have a more American version I am working on now. Hope to have something next Friday.

OMG...I love your new avatar Ed! Pencil Specialist!

Here are a few renders of a new version of the Deora I am working on. I always liked it and thought I would do a "new" version of it... but still keeping the classic roots of it. Updated/back dated the power to nailhead buick with 3 deuces. Let me know what you think... Still a work in progress...:) Still needs the surfboards too !

LOL! Mine is always a work in progress and I'm always trying to get better. Right now I'm sick of seeing the keylines in mine, so I have to work on how to produce the art without them... It's always something! :D

See? That's what I mean. I don't even know what 'keylines' refers to. Like I always tell folks, "I can't draw water, much less a pitchur!' :)

See? That's what I mean. I don't even know what 'keylines' refers to. Like I always tell folks, "I can't draw water, much less a pitchur!' :)

Keylines are the black outlines surrounding an object and in the case of my art the highlights and inner shapes as well. Let's just say keylines don't typically occur naturally and while they have their place in art they aren't always necessary OR desirable... There's a thought, someone needs to build a rod that's outlined in black. We can call it the "Keyliner"... :D

Mark Weaver was my roommate briefly when I was in college! I saw his picture from the show, looked like a lot of fun.

Mark Weaver was my roommate briefly when I was in college! I saw his picture from the show, looked like a lot of fun.

Yessssir....JF and I were neighbors for a couple of years and roomies for just a few months at school...A finer, more talented, refined, brilliant or more cerebral designer you will never find than he...JF can do it all and I have the utmost of respect for him and always will.
Kewl, kewl, kewl work posted earlier today as well JF!! So cool it's ice cold!!!

All the best-Mark:D

Having enjoyed the FAS for the past year or so, but not having any art skills kind of leaves one with a helpless feeling. Fortunately along comes a buddy who is graciously allowing me to post some of his art work. You can view some of his other art at www.myspace.com/dragdaddys (http://www.myspace.com/dragdaddys) . Thanks Ben for allowing me to use the MADD FABRICATOR as my avatar. I'll post a couple more next week.

I didn't know whether to post this in the Friday Art Show or in an Autorama thread but I thought those of you who could not make it to Detroit last weekend might enjoy seeing this inaugural event...Here's a few shots of the First Annual Detroit Autorama Artist's Alley.
A Big Thanks goes out to Josh, Todd, Chad, Ed, Max, Keith, TFee and their families & friends for being so pleasant to spend time with, so very helpful and for making the Detroit Artist's Alley so much fun. Another Big Thanks goes out to Larry Filipczak and Dennis Scott for making all of this happen for us and another Big Thanks to Megan and Denise for all of their kind words, encouragement and support! We can only hope that CASI decides to renew the event for next year. For your edification and enjoyment, here's a few pix...Sadly for unknown reasons, I stupidly missed shooting Josh and Ed's displays and for that I feel remiss....I'm hoping that they both can chime in here with their own shots!!

Enjoy!-Mark

Probably a bit off topic - but my stuff is directly inspired by the hot rod art scene of the 50s/60s... the monster painters. Heres my latest.

Keven - the work you did for John on Vintage Torque is awesome. I was handing out those flyers at Motorama this past weekend.

Here is something different for me. Pen and ink on wood... Aspen I think.

Hi, didn't know you had FAS until stumbled on it few days ago. I'm from Sacramento, CA and we have a Second Saturday Art Walk every month. Anyhow I haven't made anything in 3 years because I'm working as a contractor in Iraq. When I get back I hope to build a shop where I can continue my art and tinker on my hobby. I'll leak out one or two each Friday to keep you coming back for more. This chair is made from Lexus parts that were leftover from customers who got suspension bushings changed out. Also are a couple of control arms from worn out ball joints. The upholstery are seatbelts that were procured from a recall that Lexus had. The Blue is a powder coat that was supposed to be darker, but came out fine. I sold this chair at an art gallery several years ago to a gentleman in Monterey, CA. If you are interested in some of the pieces I still have available, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for the props guys, I'm glad that it all worked out & you all had a blast at the show. I know that I did. It was great to meet you all. Talking with Dennis & Rudy indicates that they think the Alley is here to stay. We'll see what happens next yr, maybe it'll grow more!

One of the funniest moment at the show (for me) was when Metz gave Tillrock that B&W pic of a rusted out, highly textured, way overgrown hulk sitting in a southern junkyard. You could see the exasperation in Ed's face & I could tell that he can't pass up the challenge of drawing it. :D Artists tormenting artists, what could be more fun than that?

Here are a few renders of a new version of the Deora I am working on. I always liked it and thought I would do a "new" version of it... but still keeping the classic roots of it. Updated/back dated the power to nailhead buick with 3 deuces. Let me know what you think... Still a work in progress...:) Still needs the surfboards too !
