you can still buy them right from you GM dealer in half inch increments from a 1 inch chop all the way to a 6 inch chop for the 60 Chevy. so if you want to do a 4 1/2 inch chop just go to your local GM dealer and tell them you need to order a 4 1/2 inch chopped windshield for a 60 Chevy (tell them the model) and they will order it for you. takes about 2 weeks to come in and last i knew they sell for about $175 each.

Hey kustombuilder, what cars will chevy (or other gm makes) will they do that for? Or how far back (year of car) will they do that for? I was unaware that you could order one chopped from the dealer..

they'll do it for any GM car at least back to the late 40s. maybe even further back than that. give them a call and ask.

Thanks for the info man. I am cutting four inches off of my 58' Caddy and now I have a good source for some glass. That curved windshield (and large I might add) was going to be an expensive piece. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Sometimes we forget to check the dealer. I got all the parts to convert my 4 door falcon into a chopped two door hard top, right from ford. All new , and cheap too!

The Dealer??? Really???
Now, that is the very last place i would think of checking for ANYTHING, other than a factory part for a car under a year old...
Maybe ive had too many european cars, and been burned with dealer prices and poor parts availability... and just assumed it was the same across the board.
But parts such as glass, that isnt factory original??? Wow.

if you dealer doesn't have the chopped glass, call around you probably need to find a GM performance parts authorized dealer.
tech-o-matic for this gem! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I called Allah the other day and I said, "Dude, bro' I'm feeling really gangly today, ya' think ya' can hook me some up with some twigs a couple inches shorter?" He said "No sweat bro, ya' can pick 'em up at Florida Hospital next week."
Yeah man, the dealer's got the shit.

Yea I heard that the curved glass was a cinch. It's the flat glass that you can't get anymore.

and esp. about the curved glass thing...
I'm screwed with my chopped '52 Chevy truck...
it's all flat glass, plus it seems I chopped it TOO much...
can't get it that short... Damn...
LOTS of great info on the Hamb... I love this place..!!!

Can't any glass company do flat glass? I have a '52 Chevy truck I was planning on chopping and I thought the glass was going to be the easy part.

flat glass is real difficult and the dealers don't usually stock it anymore. might have to go with LEXAN!!
I think all the factory glass has that tinted part on the top 3" though so its not truely traditional. TP

For flat glass most builders will use large bathroom mirrors and cut them down. Then they will scrape off the stuff on the back so it won't REFLECT on there work.

i prefer lexan windows because you cut them yourself with a torch. and water won't stick to it.

Roadstar, I'm going to have to come down there and deal with you in person if you don't stop giving away all of the car building secrets to these newbies. How are they ever going to learn if you don't let them figure out some of this stuff for themselves?

Hey kustom, thanks for the info. I also appreciate the suggestion on where to find a bed for my 27'. I jumped off the computer and thought that you had to be smoking something. I jumped back on and saw your reply to my "wanted" post, and realized you may just be as big a smart ass as I.. Good to know that you are out there. I will have to be more cautious about my replies.

Funny guys... If you want chopped curved glass not plastic, make a pattern of what you need and have it shipped to Finland, there is a company that can do it. John DŽAgostino use that way for his cars as well as some guys here in Sweden. Dont expect it to be cheap. First try to get in touch with Timo Taskinen, a Finnish guy living in California. IŽm sure Johnny will help you with that.

Wow, thanks for the dealer info. I just went down to plymouth and picked up a set of dropped spindles and a packard tailight conversion kit. They also ordered a two door conversion, but it's on back order (a few weeks delay). Can't wait!
