Do you ever find yourself talking to someone who you would never figure to be interested in old cars, and then find out that they are a car nut from way back when?

A few years ago, there was this retired gal from near Boston, who attended my church for 3 or 4 months while she was doing research for a book project. We happened to have lunch after church one Sunday, and I got to talking about my mania for old cars. She surprised me by telling me that she was knee deep in modified cars, back when she was raising her family. They lived on the outskirts of L.A. back in the '60's. She told me her husband had a modfied Jag that he took road racing, and that her sons had built some hot rod model A's and a VW sand rail. She didn't know all the details on this stuff, but said she appreciated a chance to talk about old cars, anyway.

What brought this to mind was a visit to my foot doctor last week. He knows I'm a car nut, and asks what I'm up to. Then he says, "Ya know, I bought a car this week." So I'm getting ready to congratulate him for buying a new Beemer, or maybe a vintage euro sports car.

Nope, he says he just bought a customized '52 Studebaker! Hopped-up flathead inline 6, dual carbs, stock 3 speed with electric O.D., stock drum brakes, modified front end bodywork. Damn! He told me that the guy who built the car was a friend's dad, and after six years work, the car was almost completely done. Unfortunately, the builder passed away just before he was finished with it. So, my Doc bought it, and is having it shipped down here.

Surprised the heck outta me; never had him pegged for a car nut! Later, Kinky6 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I know what you mean. About 4 years ago I started seeing a new doctor. Got to talking about Back to the 50's, and he tells me he has 52 F1 hotrod truck. I had just bought my 51 F2 a couple weeks before this.

Hey Switchblade,

Nope, I ain't kinky for feet in particular; but there are a lot of Inliners who have some really awful puns for their club nicknames: casual6, six fiend, six-session, twisted6, and our socially responsible prez., Safe Six.

As for the foot doc, I've got diabetes; too much beer drinkin' in my younger days or somethin'. Anyway, I get to go see all the good specialists; Internist, Endocrinologist, Podiatrist, plus a few others at odd times. Don't want ta lose a foot, and hafta change my handle to "peg-leg"!

Be healthy, Kinky6 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
