I grew up here in Newark, New Jersey and ever since I can remember I was always into cars. You guys out there do you remember the "TWINS"
very famous at the "HOLE". Well I knew them along with Levi Holmes and
the guys at New Newark Exxon. How about the "Golden Fleece Camaro"?
And Raymond Mendez once owned the worlds fastest automatic trans
race car. It was a Camaro. Before he became famous I hung around with him on Ave P on the weekends. I had a 76 Trans Am 455 4 Speed back then. Want more good memories how about Mr.Machine and the custom
paint jobs he used to do? And NHR Speed Shop in Harrison right across the bridge from Newark's McCarter Highway (Route 21). I remember my uncle
Mike (Cruz) used to tell me stories about a girl with a vette that had lettered on the back of the car " If You Can Beat Me You Can Eat Me".
You'd race at the underpass to Rutt's Hut. Lots' more stories here.
I'm 55 now and no longer racing but man do I miss those days. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/d
