View Full Version : Cool Pics...I'm Going To Miss That Thread BAD!!!!

This is one of my all time favorite threads. I check it every other day and thoroughly enjoy it. I completely understand the mods for being frustrated with the OT assholes but maybe we can police it so that it isn't a burden to the mods.

Is there any way it can be reinstated again for the umteenth time??

Sincerely,

BloodyKnuckles

BTW...I appreciate all that the Mods do for the HAMB. Your work has got to suck!! Thanks.

There were 22 posts deleted from that thread in the last two days.

How do you expect to police it?

I have no clue.

It's hard to deny the popularity of the thread though.

Yeah, it's a shame because a thread like that could be cool.

There are just a few too many people who cannot handle a topic as open as "cool pictures" while keeping it in context. (and I really hope I don't have to explain the context)

So when multiple people keep posting stuff best left to their MySpace page, argue among themselves like twelve year old girls, then hassle us when we remove it – that hassle very quickly outweighs any benefit of having the thread open.

Sorry, but we don't reopen those threads.

I'm with you. Sadly, popularity isn't always a good thing...

I guess we could start with a disclaimer like this......

We like this thread, we want it to stay.

Post something OT in it and you will be banned. No questions.

Don't know what OT for this site is? Read a while...

I understand guys. It's just sad. It's almost like the disclaimer would have to be every other post. The fucks just don't get it. Damn.

I don't know what sirius means....

I've actually had nothing to do with moderating that thread. I try to leave the editorial focus of the main board to the guys who are better at it. I chimed in here because I was actually wanting to hear a way you all could police it. Maybe something I hadn't thought of.

I do know the main board Mods are worn out watching that thing. 550 pages is a lot to keep up with.

I did find a way you can police it. Bloodyknuckles can start a social group and everyone who was interested in that thread can join it and post their pics.

This way, the group owner can delete what they don't like. Delete enough from someone, you can boot them from the group...

If you want to do it, let me know what the group id is and I'll help with a link for your sig lines...

Very sad.

For a while I thought we could keep it on track, and I got a little more generous with Infraction Points.

But that resulted in Users getting in my face, Bans and users that probably should have been Banned, eventhough I didn't.

Like I said before on the same Thread.

If enough people were going to try and De-Rail it again it was going to be Closed.

And that's what happened.

What is On Topic on the HAMB, and what is not should be pretty clear.
( if it isn't, read this again.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44274 )

And just because it said "Cool Pics" in the title line, doesnt mean all the O/T stuff can be included.

I have an idea, why not start a social group for that, maby the cool pictures group? that would make you the moderator of the group, and allow you to eject members who cause problems. maby the pictures could be moved to your group?:)

This is more a matter of a thread with a bad title, no?.

Before I posted up a photo of the abandoned B29 I had not bothered to read the first post or any posts, just looked at the photos.
After that when I realized I was off topic I didn’t delete my post because of the interest (PM’s and quotes)

Perhaps in a situation like this a moderator should edit the title? (<<<<that’s a question mark)

If everyone's title pertains to Traditional Hot Rods and Custom Cars, moderators shouldn't have to do any editing.

Honestley - if a moderator edits any title you would be very surprized that sometimes the original poster gets his panties in a wad over changing titles.

Want to laugh at something else ?
Moderators delete a off topic post or car or you name it non- traditional car stuff and the guilty guy who got his post deleted starts sending you PM's of his opinion of off topic links or doesn't fit the rules, like he was being picked on and you missed this and this and this which I thank them and when I have time look at and moderate.
I can say most of the Moderators don't even look at who posts - we just delete posts that are O/T.
You start making mental notes when the same name keeps popping up.

What some of you don't see is all the Moderators donate their time to make what we love- "The HAMB" run as smootly as possible.

This is for FUN and some of you guys sometimes I think forget that.

Any way - The poster should put a title that fits what this Website is about and that is Traditional Hot Rod and Custom cars and thats about it.

Thanks,

Cob

That one thread had to have been a HUGE monetary drain on the HAMB's resources. Even though Ryan never mentions how much stuff costs it only makes sense that a thread with that many views, replys, etc costs a fortune to maintain. It's a shame some couldn't appreciate the thread.

And here is a prime example of another part of the problem.... people don't bother reading the threads before they post......

He's referring to completely reading this thread cuz if you did you would have realized that Rashy suggested the same thing as you came up with which to every that read the whole thread means that you didn't.;)

We should start a new "Cool Pix" thread and have Denise moderate it. She is the voice of reason.

I'm just throwing this out there, what if there was a particular day, (maybe Wednesdays) dedicated to cool pics. Similar to the Friday night art shows. Start it Wednesday, make it a sticky for the day, dump it into the Art Archive Thursday morning. Maybe even close it after moving it to the Art Archive so it doesn't get too out of hand, like it has in the past.

Oh and who ever starts the thread each has to post the "rules" in the first post as a reminder or it gets killed before it even gets any momentum, thoughts?

No way Jose, I could NEVER moderate....I'm too hard on stupid people. :D

While this has your attention Big Olds and I will be in San Diego in mid-May for a long weekend. Perhaps we could have lunch, dinner, a drink, or just a short meet & greet. Whatever you can work into your schedule.

why not start a Cool Pix Thread social group?

What? :)

That thread pissed me off. The beginning was great and then it started going away... then it got stupid and even after the mods threatened more and more people piled on the shit.

Pisses me off...

I can't imagine the work it would take to maintain that thread or the money it costs

where do you draw the line?
it's up to someone??
why is a Triumph chopper ok and a '64 Bultaco isn't?
I dont think choppers belong on HAMB, they are more '70's to me. I figure enough older hambers have choppers that that makes it ok, really I don't care one way or another as long as we don't have a double standard.

personally I think cool pics are just that ... if its a sunset, is it still a cool pic? ...YES

I say let it be, press the report button if you don't think it belongs.

and yes this was my favorite thread too.

We were planning on opening the original back up once the Drama had died down a bit.

But Hotrodsurfer jumped the gun a bit by starting his own version.

So, unless Ryan decides differently, thats the one you are stuck with.

You can put a link on it to the first one, if you want to help out the Newbies that dont use the Search function...

No different from the tech and other things that were posted years ago, or is it?

If you are interested in something you have a way to search for it....
