On the overhead valve engines, I see the no aftermarket racing head rule, but had been thinking of some crazy mods, and was wondering if it would be within the "spirit" of the rules when a certain fleabay auction was brought to my attention.

Says:

"This is a HOMEMADE Chevrolet racing head, modified, 235/6 cyl. engine with 3 carbs. It is a large valve head, Part #3836848 and GM 7 on it. Also numbers cast under valve cover: CON 9 and A30 6 which leads us to believe this was made in 1956. " (edited off the shippng and sales details)

I had been contemplating a mod like that, figuring it would make a Jimmy flow even better than it does (compared to the Chebby), and it might stay together for the shorter run times of the HA/GR class, but I could see some people not thinking that was "fair".

So what do you all think, would a fellah get run out of the track on a rail (pun sorta intended :D ) if he showed up with a head like that on his HAMB Gas Rail?:confused:

i would not be opposed to that mod because the stock head was used. if it was done in aluminum no way.

Yep, "aftermarket" is the operative word. That isn't aftermarket.
Anything done for the purpose with and on period equipment is what it's all about.
That mod isn't new, it was done then and is "spirit" as you can get. :cool:

ps. Get on with it, you're not the only one who remembers and has considered that particular mod, but you could be the first to field it. :D

I like it, and it's "In the Spirit" to me it's not really too different than what Rocky did on Toymaker ??!!??

If you bring it to the HAMB Drags at MoKan, you'll not only get the "Long Distance" award but also the "Best Head" award.
