Hmmmm...my thread was "off topic" it seems...a '58 Ranchero with a girl posing with it...WITH clothes on, I might add, albeit few, however, at least as much as in the "Boobs, beers, and hot rods" threads of great fame, and any Badbob picture thread, OR the "Pin-ups girls with tools" thread, which still continues, oddly enough...:rolleyes:

Well, I can only assume that someone must have complained, so, I'll go easy here, especially since I can't even send a p.m. back inquiring because the HAMB will not accept it:

My thread was "off topic" , really??? you mean like Old houses, Ferrari's or old signs????

All I will say, in conclusion is, I'm sorry I obviously offended someone in a certain "clique", because otherwise, I can't figure for the life of me why my thread was yanked, while so many others with PRE-64 cars, AND scantily clad women remain...

Hell...a lot of 'em don't EVEN contain pre-64 cars!

And please don't take this as a gripe...it is a legit question, and since I can't respond to the "thread deleted" p.m., I can't really ask it that way...

Here...I edited it, and re-wrote it with ABSOLUTE CLARITY, for those who cannot, or will not bother to read:

as for Ferrari and other non US made cars,,I don't think they older foreign cars should be off limits,,the Hamb seems world wide,,and well not every country had access to a 40 Ford.

Plus much of the Euro technology helped revolutionize the auto industry and cars are cars

Also very true...however, if that stretch is o.k., I'm pretty sure a '58 Ranchero is CERTAINLY not much of one...and I've seen PLENTY of girls posing with cars...Oh, well...not the end of my world, just seeking a REAL answer.

That's my guess, but...the "off topic" form letter was pretty lame...Of course, I'm sure with 70,000 members, or whatever there are now, a personal explaination would be pretty surprising, and very difficult to do for everyone, for everything...

She ( my model ) DID HAVE clothes on, at least as much as I've seen in PLENTY of other threads...Anyway, I was just hoping for a moderator response, or something, because I'd like to post up my pix again, but I'm not exactly sure what I need to do...perhaps a nice flak jacket for the lady?:D

YUP I feel the same way dude, I started a thread about vintage clothing from the 50's and 60's what people were wearing back in the 50's and 60's at the drags and at the hangouts on the weekend, I thought that would help out in you know dressing the part when cruising the hotrod or dare I say Muscle car, LOL I also ask about a custom 65 gto can it be done or does anybody have pic's of some and I got slap into last week, :rolleyes: I was told the cut off is 64, but yet I see solid alterd 65 gtos on here and custome 66 caddy and bonny, and your right why is this off topic but we can talk about old house, I love talking and learning all about the old days so for me screw this place I'll just keep my mouth shut and not post up anything, It's like the guy with the 55 chevy asking about paint and people are harping on him GFY folks, I'm done going back in my corner with my popcorn, This site will kill it's self in a few years, Oh I do think you have tobe part of "THEIR GROUP" in order to post.:rolleyes: oh just for the record I have a 1965 GTO and 1929 4door, and I will never post a pic on this site after the way I have been treated here.

If you are worried about how you dress when cruising you do not belong on the HAMB, trust me.

If you do not know the difference between a GTO and a tradtional styled custom you do not belong on the HAMB.

There is sub catagories, Marketplace with classifieds, HAMB o Dex, and Allience Vendors; both tech and art archives; Ask the Editors; and Events.....how many more do you need? I think what we have is pretty perfect and has worked wonderfully for many, many years just the way it is.

It's fast becoming Myspace/Facebook. Everybody has to show the world their house(s), car(s), motorcycle(s), mini-bike(s), garage(s), wife/girlfriend(s), kid(s) and sometimes their dirty laundry. WTF? We've become a culture of "On-Camera' egotists. But, what most don't realize is the enormous price they're going to pay in loss of privacy for that 15 minutes of fame.

Gotta love the guy that starts an 'Off Topic' thread with 'OT' in the title and watches it survive.

And what better way to market your business or a build than on a free website like the HAMB? And as we all know that there are a few
that do nothing on here but sell.......be it cars or parts.

My hat's off to the guys/gals that exchange information that's pertinent to traditional hot rodding. I myself am a hobbyist as you can tell from my
posts, but even with my limited experience and knowledge I occasionally
am able to help someone else. And with all the info I've gleaned from the HAMB and HAMBERs over the years it really gives me a warm fuzzy feelin'
to be able to return the favors once in awhile.

I myself am probably leading the pack in 'DELETED THREADS.' The last
one of mine that got deleted was a video on how to change a fan belt on a VW Bug in 5 seconds. (Google it or PM me for link). It was way cool, yet got yanked in favor of someone's domestic problems that needed venting and moral support from around the world.

Last year they pulled one that I posted asking what the ramifications of GM going out of business might be to the hot rod community, as SBC's
and parts may no longer be available unless aftermarket, and how might that affect price and availability. The rationale was that it was political,
yet the 'Made in China' threads abound. Go figure.

The question as posted was a legitimate one. The gripes that followed are not helpful.

Even though the site was started for traditional hot rods and customs, the Mods let a ton of stuff slide by every day, thankfully.

Maybe this thing should go back to very narrow and dump everything not strictly on-topic. But I would miss a lot of the stuff, like old photos, salvage yard crauls, and yeah, old house stuff too.

Maybe "on-topic" should cover all the stuff hamber guys (and hamb gals) might talk about when hangin' together - OLD cars, tools, tech, OLD garages and houses, racing, OLD signage and automobilia. But let's be honest, tatoos and women sometimes get in the conversation too. But maybe that's for another site.

BTW- is the difference between pin-ups and porn, whether or not you would let your mother see it on the garage wall?

Its not the drama, its the big question mark that leaves you hanging wondering why a thread is gone, and another thread remains.

I'm left wondering why the crown vic frame thread disappeared, is it that crown vic frames are not acceptable? When s10 frames are? Or did the thread devolve into something else between the last time I saw it and the time it got deleted. Which, brings the question, If I need to know something about the crown vic frame, dare I ask it again when I don't know why it disappeared in the first place.

If you need to delete a thread, how about deleting the content with a simple note as to WHY it got deleted provided the initial thread was dancing that fine line. Blatent OT, well, delete as usual. That way, over time we get to know where the grey areas are more defined, rather than posting similar stuff constantly.

Your assumption is just fine with me. However, that's not why your thread was deleted. Your thread was deleted because of three different posters commenting on the fat chick in the photos... and then the guy that told them they sucked for being rude... blah, blah, blah...

To me, the content wasn't worth the drama... especially after staying up all night working on this damn forum. I'm just not into the social side at all... and don't really care to have chicks draped over my cars.

Hey, I edited a publication for 10 years, so I understand that any informational forum must have a general (or narrow, for that matter) format and SOMEbody who has to make a call on what fits and what just isn't going in. It may not be democratic, nor even fair always. Just the way it is.

Myself, I've had a few threads deleted, and I didn't gripe because they were deemed beyond peripheral. I've also been permitted to post some threads I had thought might not make it, but they were allowed and proved very stimulating conversation fodder for some enthusiastic HAMBers.

I will stick with the HAMB, perfect or not. Neither Ryan or anybody else is going to please everybody all the time.

(And, yeah, I enjoyed the Pretty Girls With Tools thread until some guys got away from the theme and forgot to put tools with girls in the same shot. LOL My 2 cents.)

Now, it sounds like you don't agree with the direction I have taken the joint. That's not a point of contention... It's just a difference of opinion. And you can do something about it by not using the forum. I mean, it's not really that big of a deal. It's just a message board.

And personally, I'm really happy that is in there.

It keeps things loose, ( hopefully ) friendly, and flexible.

Sometimes a Thread that at first glance looks Off Topic is too cool to get rid off.
And sometimes there is a lot of O/T at the top already, and a bit more borderline stuff gets Deleted.

That might seem inconsistent, but ( at least from my point of view ) it isn't...

Thank you, for a reasonable assessment...It's nice to know that some people still have communication skills!:)

Anyway...I STILL want to know:
are we simply deleting ALL threads with girls on/with cars now???
Or just ones that turn ugly...like 80% of the threads on here anymore...

If we ARE NOT, I'll post up some of the less "controversial" ones...
And, I'm sure some 40 year old virgin with a bag of Dorito's and an overfull ashtray in front of his monitor, and no car of his own will still probably have crap to sling...I, personally, can take all the insults anyone can hurl, In fact, I'm always curious to hear new ones!

why not start a social group for cars like yours? it's like having a club within the hamb. off topic stuff is ok there because it's off the main board and you moderate it yourself. that would get the guys with the same type of projects together in one place. I try not to post anything of my car because it's WAY off topic,even though it;s getting up there in age, I do sometimes post a technical idea or comment because there are some things that are the same no matter what you drive. I make all my own stuff etc. so occasionally i post something I feel could be useful to someone else. custom upholstery,wiring,machine work,custom homemade parts, paint and body work, it transcends all makes and models if you do it yourself.

I think that comment was perfectly valid...many people spoke up and told you that Ryan determines what is OT....thats it end of story. Its his site to do as he pleases with, we are all guests here...if he doesnt like something or doesnt want to deal with the shit something might cause its his option to delete it as he sees fit. I dont understand how that is so hard to grasp. This place is not a democracy, deal with it. He deleted your thread, its not the end of the world, take your lumps and move on.
