I am currently enrolled in the Auto Trim class at Kwantlen College and I'm looking for part time (afternoons and weekends) work in a custom shop. Any BC HAMBers have any suggestions? The Yellow Pages haven't been much help.
Thanks
Bill

Thanks for the heads up, Rev. I kinda thought it worked that way. So anyone have any recommendations for any trim shops (not just custom) in the area to check out? I'm not looking for a personal refferal, and I won't walk in and say "so and so from the HAMB sent me". Just looking for places to check into for possible part time work. I don't care if I'm just sweeping floors, as long as I can get a foot in the door.
Thanks again,
Bill

Too bad you're so far away. I've got more work than I can handle by myself- seriously thinking about trying to get an "intern" from the community college upholstery program.
Normal jobs by day/custom work at night?? The guys at the upholstery supply place told me all the regular auto trim shops are really hurtin' for business right now. They were really surprised when I told 'em how busy I am. I would try to do custom stuff all the time and supplement that with "normal" boring jobs if you have to.
That panel on your intro post looks better than the stuff most shops around here put out. Finish that VW and the next thing you know you'll be doing all your friends cars, then all their friends cars. Pretty soon you'll be in my position needing somebody to help you do all the work. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Fatluckys - good to hear business is going well down there! If you were in central or southern California I would be there tomorrow. I would like to move south eventually but I need to stay close to the coast. How's the surf in Austin? LOL
BadPat - Who is Jay Beal and how do I get ahold of him? I've been working on my instructor to get your truck in but he is a hardcore purist and doesn't like to bring in custom (read - interesting) stuff for us. The stuff we get is almost always stock resto type stuff. It's the designing from scratch aspect that he doesn't like but that is exactly what I what to learn and build some skills on. So basically, your truck is the perfect project for me as that is the direction I want to take with what I learn in the course.

Never say die Pat! I'll keep working on it. If you are coming out on thursday bring some ideas and I'll bring my sketchbook. Maybe if I can show him something on paper he'll finally get it that this is something I want to and can do. I'll give you a call tomorrow, I've got a hot date tonight and we're on our way out the door.
