ok I know how bad this is going to sound but, has anyone eles had a problem with Krylon paint. The last two cans I've purchased have assed up everything. I was using it to touch up some interier pieces(flat black) and the shit cracked up so bad it looks like marble. I have tried varios techniques to solve the problems but after it dries there are fault lines all through the paint http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Krylon bad....Rustoleum good!

(But Dupli-Color and cheap, hardware store brands are good, too!)

this is going to sound even worse but last year i painted an entire car with it and it worked good (lots of wet sanding). I know I know but whats a broke shopless country boy to do. Anyway just seems like they changed formulas or something. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've painted a couple cars with spray cans. One was some no-name orange paint, and another one was Ford blue engine enamel!!! Ain't no shame in a rattlecan finish!!

good to know that i'm not too back woods. the sad part of it is though I could have most likely bought a compressor, paint gun and paint for 100 or so dollars more but the problem is I don't have the extra c note http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

we painted a bike frame and it did that. it turns out the paint underneath it was lifted by the solvents in the paint, along with not real good surface prep... it probably reacted with whatever you tried to paint over.

sanded it to bare metal and primed. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

maybe you used a laquer based primer? And krylon is enamel. I don't know, but it reacted with something. Did you use wax and grease remover? Etch primer under the primer/surfacer. You need something under the primer to help it grab the bare metal.

Another thing is if you ever used armorall or anything like that with silcone in it, it will fuck up any chance of paint being normal...

I'll try that; the primer i used was what i always use cheap-o walmart red oxide. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

i just spray bombed my daily driver using krylon..the krylon camoflage "extra flat" black works wonders and it makes the car look like the friggin stealth bomber...i thought about doing the extra flat olive drab just to be different.

ahhh...to be from the gay state of michigan.

It sounds like you might have put it on a trifle heavy and didn't allow enough drying time between coats. There is a tendency sometimes to load on rattle can paint because it doesn't cover very well.Check the can for proper application for that particular paint.Compatibilty between primer and topcoat could be an issue also.I would opt to use the same brands next time.
Til then it's back to bare metal. When spraying over bare metal,it's a good idea to make sure the metal is completely clean(wax and grease remover)and DRY!If you spray over the surface and there is even a hint of wetness from the solvent, you will not only have an adhesion problem but a drying problem as well. When spraying over bare metal mist the coats on and let dry between coats;don't try to cover it in one coat because it'll either run or will take forever to dry.The "marbling" you describe is indicative of painting over a still wet surface. The paint underneath is still,"gassing off"and causing the separation.

make sure that the piece is clean ( wax remover/degreaser). do it a few times to get it all off. How long was it detween primer and paint? Maybe it got some shit on it. what temperature are you painting at, that can matter sometimes, but Ive never noticed. Ive painted in damn near freezing, and the paint just looked faded. Could also be you just got some bad paint? -J.

Rattle can paint jobs are the best. In my opinion there is nothing better then a spray can paint job. All of my cars have rattle can paint jobs. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif It's just soo cool to show up at a goodguys car show with a rattle can job you just pop out from the crowd. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
