Are louvers 60's traditional??

Hey, I was wondering if body louvers (specifically hood) are 60's style traditional? Ive seen some sweet louver jobs, and also some WAYYY overdone ones. How do louver shops charge, by the individual louver? Has anyone gotten this done and what was the price for the job (and how many louvers did they stamp)? Any help is appreciated.

Most of us around here get our louvering done by John Olay in Flint, Mi. The last I had done it was $1.00/ louver. He does some great work and builds some of the coolest cars you can imagine. This last year he finished a '29 on '32 rails with some really clever detail work.

I think they were prety much gone by '64-5, except on rods,Looking thu some old mags I see none on later models except on full customs, the move then was to muscle cars.about $1.50 a hole here.PREPPED

I think if you like the way they look put em ON who cares what year they were popular this is what kustoms and hot rods is about nothing is set in stone Im sure someone asked Barris do think this is period perfect.

$1.00-$1.50 here and that is you prep it. Are they period correct? Who cares? I'd louver everyting I own if I had a louver punch.I drive a flat black '89 Chevy PU (Yes it has red rims) and if I had the bucks I'd have 300 louvers in the hood. But it is just a parts chaser for the '28 CCPU in the garage which in my eyes is much more deserving of cool stuff.

I bought a press this summer but I haven't had a chance to do any more than a few samples. Had to do some work shop rearranging to find a home for it. It's big; almost 5' wide on the rear base, 6'deep and almost7" high with a 48" throat depth Got 1", 2" and 3" dies with it. I've got about 500 louvers to do for my track roadster p/u. Everything else will get louvers in due course.

I have a pal with a press in Hastings, but I always wanted one, so now I gots one.

Not just traditional, they are universal.
They've probably been around as long as sheet metal has.

I see louvers on tricked out Rice cars around here, so you might expand your search for someone with a press to the Eurotuners camp.

Curly, im DESPERATE to see a pic of that truck! What body style is it (S10/fullsize, extended/regular cab, short/long box)? I drive a 90 chev fullsize shortbox stepside and Id love to see a pic of a chev of the 88-98 body in suede with red rims! Lessee,
60s Jag XKEs had louvers in the hood from the factory.
'67 Pontiac GTO had the tail lights peeking through louvers.
65-67 Corvettes and other's had reversed louvers in the front fenders...in the plastic!
Even if they weren't traditional at least they were mainstream!
