View Full Version : Just curious... did they catch the hit and run golf cart?

I was at DOTD (in the green Willys pickup) on Saturday night and ended up sleeping in the truck that night. I heard that three wheeled golf cart with the sharks mouth painted on the front got away from someone and bounced of a camper and a couple of cars. One of the people from that side of the track came around to where I was and asked if they'd seen the people that owned it.
Supposedly they took off?
Anyway I was just wondering what happened with that lol... and to add to the craziness I think someone pulled a gun on someone for doing a burnout that night too... anyway, just some more DOTD craziness!
What a bad ass event it was! Can't wait for next year!

We were staying right next to where those idiots ran into the front of a car with that golf cart. They had just hit my buddies trailer a few mins before. We walked down there and they were trying to restart it, and there were a lot of people around, but nobody was saying anything to them. If it were my car, I think that cart would've ended up in the river somehow.
As for the guy with the gun.....we watched that too. Apparently, from what I heard; that was the owner of the track. I suppose he wasn't too thrilled with everyone doing burnouts on the pavement (I guess he though it wasn't safe), so he preceded to walk over there in front of them with his sawed off shotgun and blow a hole in the pavement while people were standing around (I guess he didn't worry all the shotgun pellets flying around hitting people and cars). Anyway, he had words with everyone doing the burnout, then went back to his trailer. It was pretty crazy to say the least on top of being unsafe and uncalled for.

yea, i wasnt there when it happened, but supposedly he shot the gun about 2 feet in front of my buddys truck while he was doing a burnout. instead of just asking him to quit, he shot a friggin shotgun! the ricochet hit my other friends tailgate, chipping paint and messed up his taillight. that 3" hole he put in the blacktop is alot worse than a few burnout marks. oh well kharma's a bitch. i was just taught that if your gonna pull a gun on someone, you better be prepared to kill them. the whole thing was totally uncalled for. if he had come at me with that gun he would have ate the chrome on my front bumper. you just dont pull a gun on someone. he could have really hurt somebody.....

Damn!
I heard it was the hearse that was doing the burnout, but I couldn't say for sure. I don't want to incriminate anyone lol.
I can't believe nobody called out those fools on the golf cart. If i'm not mistaken it bounced off the door of a Bel-Air. I heard they couldn't get it started... and when they finally did, it was in gear and the bastard took off.
Yeah, the shotgun thing was a bit crazy. I'd be pissed if I had damage to my vehicle because of it. Especially if I wasn't the one doing the burnout.
Oh well... makes for great stories! haha...

It was the hearse and the black primered Dodge truck. I was surprised nobody took that gun away from him and chunked it in the river. It would've gone well with the golf cart :D Oh well.. I do have to say that both vehicles were doing some killer ass burnouts!

There were (BIG) fireworks going off before the shotgun incident so when I heard the shot I looked up, then over at the hearse and saw Hutch walking through the smoke like Rambo. It took a minute to sink in... couldn't believe it! Theres other ways he could have gotten his point accross but you have to remember that we're in the backwoods of gun totin' Texas.

Yeah by around midnight I was gettin' a little tired of all the stupidity. Plus i'd been up for 2 days and really needed to crash... Luckily it all died out right about then and everyone passed out I guess.
It was still fun to sleep in the truck at the drags though (Willys cabs aren't big!). I felt like I got the "full" experience lol. Especially when the alarm clocks started firing up at around 0630 for some breakfast!
Oh and for anyone that doesn't know... if you make a left outta the race track and head north on 95... when you hit the first stop light about a mile and a half up the road, hook a left into that gas station parking lot. The little Mexican resteraunt (total dive - a term of endearment from me) got the BEST Mexican breakfast i've had in a long time.
Chilequiles (sp) with steak ranchero, lightly fried potatos, 6 corn tortillas, fresh refried beans and a pot of black coffee.
For 6 bucks.
Hells yes.

Yeah when I got there friday night around midnight there was all sorts of craziness goin on golfcarts, minibikes, fourwheelers beer drinkin bonfires and all it was great. I thought it was really kind of cool the safety police had not yet taken over this square mile of the planet. I also remember thinking "Im suprized they still let people have all these golfcarts and minibikes around all these cars sounds like a recipe for disaster". But it was neat, kind of a free for all of sorts. Nobody was there saying "NO you cant do that". It was all up to us. So I guess my point is We really have to learn to police ourselves on this kind of shit before they put the stop to it completely!! Lets appreciate the good thing we have going here and not FORCE the track owners, Police etc.. To step in with a "big giant rule book". There is not another place I know of that would let this type of fun go down. Have a good time but dont push your luck and be such a self centered dumbass that you ruin it for all of us!!!

It was a bad situation made worse by a bad choice of showing a gun .I agree he shouldnt have fired a scatter gun near a crowd ,but if the burnouts and wildness wernt going on ,on his parking lot to begin with ,none of it woulda happened anyway. If i had been there , and i saw people doing burnouts ,i woulda said something .I may have gotten the shit kicked outta me ,but i still woulda said something.Thats why i said earlier ,"that im glad i wasnt there when this Bullshit took place".The man is nice enough to let people camp on his property for free ,and this is how we show are appreciation for it ?

There's a lot of stuff that "coulda happened" differently, but like Daniel said none of it would have been an issue if these inconsiderate people wouldn't have been acting like fools in the first place.
What would everyone be saying if the burnouts would have gone awry? All the news stories and posts about people showing off with their cars amid a bunch of people.....a tire blows and sends shrapnel into the crowd? The car looses control and drives over a bunch of people? Or through a tent with a family sleeping inside? That would have gotten a hell of a lot more publicity than this situation...

What Lux said !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The other fuked up part of this is that with all the folks out there that night "WE" did not police our own event. To stand by and watch without stopping the stupidity ourselves is almost as bad.
Firing a weapon in a pubic area is not kool, but to drive Hutch to do that meant he was out numbered by drunks and had already tried the nice way.
And for the out of state-rs, Texas is a right to carry state and we depend on cops to bring the body bags. There should be no need to call cops to fix a Carbon based problem.
I was at the other parking lot party that night, but you can bet I am calling Hutch up to apologize for the butt wipes. We need to keep Little-River on out side.
I would not use all the words that LUX BLUE wrote in his reply however he is right on point! It only takes one person to screw up a good thing. The person in the hesrse and the one in the primered Dodge pickup doing the "BADASS BURNOUTS" you were out of line and should not be welcome at any event! And for you that wrote that you left to soon or are "staying at the track next year" how sad to cheer this bull crap on !YOU guys are just as bad! This track owner I would guess has allowed for the last time for this event to be held at HIS track! And who on here could blame him.

It's been a few years but the first time I drove down for the DOTD's I got to the track late on a rainy Friday night and slept at the track in the car in the rain. The next morning it was still raining and I figured there was no way it was going to happen. :-( Hutch wandered out to check the track and got busy clearing the leaves and drying it out. Worked his but off to make sure we could race, even if the start was late. I was impressed. Ran my first 100+ mph run that day. We ought to be respecting him, not that I aggree with the shotgun thing. He seems like a standup guy to me.

First let me say that my own club throws a three day show that emphasizes camping out. We had over 7000 people camping that we had to manage for 3 nights. The group we host gets WAY more rowdy than this crowd. I have done night time security for the last several years so I am not just spouting an opinion and I feel I'm more than qualified to comment on what went on and how it was handled. While I do agree about needing to police our selves and not being stupid and messing up peoples stuff. I was on that side of the track when the burnouts started and, they were not by any tents or camps but on the big area behind where the old stands were. They were going towards the staging lanes where again no body was at. My kids and I stopped to see what was going on and were by the Kontinentals airstream and at NO TIME did I feel we were in any danger. Hutch's first appearance was firing his shotgun. No " I need you guys to stop" or " Whoa fella's, I can't have any of this going on" or anything else said, just BLAM, something to the effect of "this #*@% better stop right now", and getting in peoples faces who were in no way being rude, confrontational, or involved in doing the burnouts but simply were concerned about him firing a gun in a crowd without warning. At that point I took my kiddo's back to our camp because I did not feel it was safe of his irresponsible, dangerous actions. That was the only time I felt in any kind of danger. If 15-20 of us can manage 7000 very drunk minitruckers with out guns then I think he could have reasonably gotten 3-4 people to stop doing burnouts. All he would have had to do is "ask" them to stop and I firmly believe they would have no questions asked. I don't know what else he had dealt with before but I had not seen him at all before that and our camp was almost next to his trailer. I am not condoning the burnouts but he did not handle it in any way shape or form of a responsible manner. It was not a bunch of drunken hoodlums or an out of control mob. He responded in a way much more dangerous then what was going on and could have injured someone seriously or killed them. I also support his right to protect his property with a gun if needed as I am usually carrying myself but I am trained to do so responsibly and his actions were not. Many of you commenting were not there and so really can't objectively address what happened, only what you "heard". That and the IDIOTS on the golf cart ( you know what club you are and so do many others ) were the only incidents all night. I will have no concerns about camping again next year or bringing my children.

Oh right, blame it on peer pressure, the worlds oldest defense. "They told me to do it!"
Take accountability for your own actions. Just because you might have done it once or you can relate doesn't make it acceptable.
Have you been to the roundup? Have you been to Congress for the cruise? A few years ago it was awesome, cars driving up and down. Cool stuff parked all over the place. Then people started doing burnouts and the mini truckers started throwing sparks and the cops showed up. Then someone got arrested that didn't deserve it. Because a bunch of other morons were bowing to the crowd, someone else paid the price. And now, there is very little cruising at all.
The point is, you can make excuses for these guys but the reality is that we are all going to pay for their 15 minutes of fame.
This is getting stretched out pretty far. There were only a handful of witnesses, myself one of them, and every one of them will tell you that this entire burnout nonsense lasted no more than just a few minutes. Less than five, seriously. The only drunk I saw was some guy on a motorcycle that had nothing to do with it. I'm not taking up for anybody but besides the handfull of fireworks, it was pretty quiet out there. Almost boring. I just want the picture painted correctly.

I was by no means defending their actions and if it was my place I would have ASKED them to stop as well. Where they were doing it does matter since so many people seemed to be under the impression that it was in the middle of or close to peoples tents or camps and that simply was not the case. I am only trying to separate the facts of what actually happened from rumors. My purpose was to point out that the situation was by no means out of hand in any way yet and that his reaction was grossly excessive and much more dangerous than what caused it. And as BOOB pointed out it lasted less than 5 minutes and there really were only a few people around. The dumbAss drunk on the motorcycle hauling ass around every so often was much more dangerous than the burnouts and thats why we put a truck across the road to stop that crap.

Dont pull the club into a situation that one member did. It is not the club that did the act, but the individual in the club. Lets keep in mind that every club has someone in it that gets a little carried away with there fun. It is the "nature of the beast" when you are around "hot rodders". I can bet you almost everybody that was there was having a great time until the "accident" happened. Then the fun turned quickly into a witch hunt for the "sorry ass" who wrecked the three wheeler. I can assure you that the guy didnt want anything bad to happen to anybodys car or other property. We all take chances bringing our cars to something like this event. I have stuff that i dont want to see get damaged just as much as the next person, however, if at any point during an event like this with these 'gearheads' acting crazy, l think it is only fair to point out that if a bunch of people dont want one person acting up around there irreplaceable cars, then they should confront that person and ask him to go away. If he cant understand the concerns of others, then he does deserve an 'ass whippin' for being disconcerned or disrespectfull. No situation should ever have to get as bad as it ends up. There is alot to be said about this, but I dont feel like what I say is going to change anything. I would only hope that we can get over this and move on to next years DOTD. And I can only hope that if anyone got hurt during the accident, that they realize that it could have been avoided. Let's have fun DAMN IT! But do it the right way! Having fun doesn't mean being stupid.

What a DAMN shame.I cant believe the stupidity that sum people show at these events to try and impress other stupid people ,and now the rest of us are gunna pay the price for their actions...
Anybody can post anything on the board. Let's wait until we hear from Hutch, El Jefe, or Beatnik, before we take what this person says is true. I, for one, doubt that it is.
Do you think for one second that "we" are even a tenth as wild as the All Harley Party Drags weekend?

Hey, let's leave this deal alone and let it die or hopefully be closed. We all had a great time and a few fucked up, happens all the time. This is now drawing in KNOW IT ALLS that joined today, no intro, most likely no hot rod and starting rumors we do not need. Now back to spreading the Hot Rod word, Texas Thaw is up next let's start some trash talk about who has a faster car not this bullshit.
