We hadn't done a lot of work that shows on the Kart lately, lots of detail welding, and patching of runs, strengthening the sectioned areas, etc. But we "got the urge" to cut some serious metal a couple weeks ago.
Here's the inside, all braced up, for you guys trying to learn how to chop a car correctly.

Next we measure out 4 1/2 inches, the same amount that Sam and George took out of THEIR truck back in 58.

Here's Vic, taking the first cut. I prefer to cut the posts with a hacksaw, by hand, to be sure the cut line is exactle where we want it to be. The Saw-Zall is a bit too uncontrollable for me.

There it is, topless, as you guys like'em!

More next week!

Very cool... keep those pictures posted! I'd love to watch the whole chop down.. down the line I'd love to do my own car with some help from some friends. You can explain it, but showing it makes it easier for me.

Id forgotten about this project-good to see an update!
a handy thing i just discovered are ultra thin cutoff wheels for my 5" grinder,i think they are 1.4mm thick, they are great for pillars and such, very easy to control and keep dead straight, and fast cutting.
try em out!

Kenny, the Kart was sectioned 5 1/2"! There's not a lot of interior room inside of it, must've been driven by a verticaly challenged person!
Kojack...unfortunately I didn't consider taking pics of the job as a how-to, more to just report on the 'clone' job in progress. But if you've got questions, I can fill in the blanks. Actually we may be doing some things "wrong" IMHO, but to replicate the original, at least in looks!
Jdee...you can't see how crowded the shop is (as usual) in the pic, but I'm also restoring that 69 GS ragtop, finishing the subframe/engine/driveline swap on the 54 Ply., my 46 Chevy is on the lift, the 41 Ford is still in limbo, and the paint booth is filled with lots of little stuff getting painted (including a wooden sign for the outside of my shop). I can't keep up!
How's your chop going?

Looks like alot of work on those front pans and headlights.

Is the truck channeled also?

Mike, I can't believe it was. There's no room now in the interior! I am only 5'10", and can sit on the floor and feel halfway comfortable. But with seats in it...not sure! Vic is taller, and can't even sit in it without seats.
