Finally settled on a powerplant for the T2. Not as cool as Bleed's score, but...$200, Out of a Running Driving Car (For once I believe it, the seller is a friend)...

What Year/Size?

Thanks,

Mike

Looks like a 54, 324. Get us some numbers. What a great score. I've been searching for a couple years for a decent runner with no sucsess. Where is the tranny that was hanging off the end?

Here's a number... Not sure if it's what you need...

Look on the heads. On the cenrter exhaust port there should be a number cast there, is it a 7?

All I can tell you is that it's definitely NOT a 371.. I don't think it's a 394 but I'm not gonna say for sure.

All my books are at home. #3 on the head does tell me that they are 53 or earlier.

There's an engine serial # stamped on the left cyl. bank. If it's a 53 or older (which I think it is by the non-dampener pulley) I can ID the year. I've got a '53 Motors repair manual that has engine id's by year.

That looks like an olds to Ford tranny adapter and the front side mounts aren't stock, look like the kind that Speedway sells that take Ford buscuits.

Ok, I guess I have some de-greasing to do...

Thanks.

From what I understand, it was in an A, Not sure what he was running behind it. I believe it has been sitting (inside) for what I gather is 10 years...

looks like a 303 olds, out of a 51-53 Olds.....

Yep, looks like a '51-3 303, most likely a '53. The number stamped on the LH deck under the head in the center will give the clue to the year the block is.

That thing on the back is basically a breather for the crank case. The actual "breather" part is inside the block. You'll see it when you take the valley pan off.
Looks like it has a stick flywheel, that's worth a good hundred, so you did OK if you are going to use the engine.

But the 303 heads are a low HP head.... it won't be a powerful engine with a #3 head.

Anyone have any head suggestions? Will 324's work?

Thanks,

Mike

far as I know the 324 heads will bolt straight up, 56's are the beter ones, looks like a good score, now all you need is a manual box and you are off......

I learned to drive in a '53 98 (cadillac chassis and weight) and the stock engine would smoke the oversize US Royal Masters.
I'd suggest not changing the heads unless you are going thru the engine anyway.
After all, chances are if you find some good '56 or newer heads, they'll probably be attached to the more preferable engine too.
You can bore the 303 to a 324 by the way.
