Buddy of mine is looking for a place that can dip-strip his frame. The guy in Rochester (actually Hilton) quit doing it some years ago and I haven't had any need it since then, so I don't know of anybody doing it. Is anyone doing chemical stipping in the Rochester - Syracuse - Buffalo area or did the EPA successfully drive 'em all out of business ??
Thanks,
-Tag
I opt for media blasting.
I prefer sand on frames and plastic beads on bodies.
On a simple frame like an A or 32, chemical or dipping would work better than a later frame with cracks, holes and other crevices that would make cleaning more difficult.
I aure you will get several opinions on yoour question.

There was a place here a couple of years back... I had my drivers side fenders and hood and grille for my 36 done, then they sold the business...I do not know of anyone else, i will check.

The DEC nailed the one in Utica and put them out of business.
Last I checked the nearest one was near Pittsburgh. But that was a couple years ago.

Bob, I don't think you are going to find anyone in this area, there is a plastic media guy in Wayne county, and a sandblaster in Henrietta thats all I know of Serge

I agree - media blasting would be better. I'll pass all your comments on to my pal.
Thanks for the input.

long island vic,
Thanks anyway, but I doubt he'd want to go that far. I think I convinced him to get the frame media blasted.
kustomolds,
WTF - you been dipping into the happy weed again????

I'm also looking to plastic-media blast my chevelle. Anyone have a point of contact for anyone who does this sort of work in northern New York?
Thanks,
Mike
Bob,
I think the guy in Wayne county is done too.I think it was "NY Strip", i had some stuff done by him years ago.
Anyway, There's a guy in Hall NY thats been blasting sheet metal for people. In fact, It's Mark's (from 'Rod Tech') father. He did 2 body's for my buddy John, and was really resonable on price.
Not sure if he'd do a frame, but i can't see why not.
If your interested in contacting him to find out, lemme know and i'll give you Mark's number..I don't have his dad's..

Thanks for the latest replies, guys (the original question was first asked back in November, 2004). Since I initially posted, I found a good media blaster out near Albion, NY (about 30 miles west of Rochester). Guy's name is Carl Babcock and he's located at Rte. 104 & Knowlesville Rd., about 4-5 miles past Rte. 98. Phone no. is 585.798.8687 for anybody that's interested. Charged a friend of mine $150 for a Model A frame, just for reference as to prices.
