Has anyone out there ever fabed up a set? I am planing on
fabing up some Zoomies for my truck this winter. I plan
on doing fender well style, and colecting them at the fender. I have not seen many in person. Mostly pics. I
have some concerns about weight, and how thick I should make the flange? I'm not doing s/s, holds to much heat.
Jet coat. Any imput would be great.

Hedman Headers offers kits to build Zoomies, whether or not U use a kit, I suggest that U follow there recipe of head flange thickness, etc.
You can go to there website and take a look........

Built the ones for the "Cheese Grater" myself. My my own flanges from 1/4" plate, and had the pipes bent by a local shop. They are 2' long, and prolly strong enough to sit on when carb tuning. Just do a real good job on the welding. I TIGed mine.

I'm going to spray them with a $3.19 spray can of grille paint once I break in the motor. No jet coat or other expensive stuff for me. Dave

I built my own for my flathead powered bucket. The flanges came from jdubbya's shop. Some kinda Mack truck a/c flange. 1 1/2 pipe bent with my cheap ass pipe bender. For baffles I took some tightly rolled heavy-gauge chiken wire type stuff, jammed it into the pipes and welded an 1 1/2 washer 18 inches into the pipe to make it a little more neighbor (and cop) friendly. Leaving 'em bare so they rust a little. They sound great and I have about $15 into the whole set.

Baloney cut or turn up the ends. Really. This is from experience.

The best way to build a set of headers is to start with a box of misc mandrel bends. Speedway has em for about 100 bucks. Enough bends to build at least a pair of headers.

The flanges..I like to ues 3/8 plate. It's WAY over kill but you will never have any problems with leaks at the flange. I had a buddy build a set of flanges for me, but if you do it your self, try a plasma cutter or torch and a rotary file.

About the "piss off pipes" as they are called...I speak from experience..don't angle them at the ground. Fatassbuick and some dudes almost had to go to fist city two weekends ago at the Goodieguys over pipes blowing crap on some dudes car.

Here is a shot of mine...

Thanks for the imput guys. I plan on running them down
along the inner fender. I plain on twisting them up a bit.
My goal is to create a little back presure. Over all I
want to shoot flames from the front fenders. Plus they will
look badass. If all goes well in a few years I can just a
871 blower and all my childhood dreams will come true. Ha,
Ha.
