Has anyone molded flames out of metal into their car body? I was thinking of cutting the body line out of my 28 sedan and putting it back in as flames.I have never seen it done and think it would look cool.

Not that I wouldn't like it with good taste . There's a 32 sedan who has done it here in Ohio somewhere. I didn't care for it. He had flames cut for side panels on his hood. Looked like a wannabe PT cruiser.

I remember seeing someone on here did it on a piece of metal. I dont think it would look cool on a car. I personally just like cars that have a classy style, not to overdone.

wyotech has done it on their truck. well, not exactly that way, i wont get into how they did it...

i tried it with a bead roller on a piece of sheet, its pretty damn hard, i think. im sure with practice it wouldnt be too bad..

Go to metalshapers.org and,in the galleries, search for "embossed flames".One guy did them on the side of his FED another guy did them in a bike tank.

I was the one who tried it on a spare chunk of sheetmetal. I think after trying it, and seeing it, I don't think I'd want it on a car. It could look alright, but you'd really have to put alot of thought into the layout first. Remember you can't just sand it off and try it again. You have to re flatten the metal. It would have to be carefully done, so it didn't end up kinda gaudy looking.

I saw some really cool polished stainless 3D flames on a black bike once. If you want to get an idea of how it'd look, try making a panel and sticking it on with some duct tape. that way you could kinda get a feel for how it might look.

There was a Flat black VW, fencderless, and sporting a truck bed, that had them at Columbus GG last year. About 3 or 4 inches wide. I liked it.

There was a 1947 Pontiac convertible for sale at the Lebanon Valley Dragway swap meet and nostalgia drags a few weeks ago that had flames made of round rod welded into the back fenders ,smoothed off and primed. I wish I had taken a picture. They were so subtle I almost missed them but they looked pretty good.

Has anyone ever noticed the way the hood side vents look on a '39 chevy if the stainless trim strips are left off? Pretty bare. I've thought about replacing the trim with a flat piece of aluminum, cut into a neat flame pattern, maybe 4" high by about 24-30" long.

Anyone ever put side marker lights on a hot rod? I've also thought about some small flame shaped cut-outs near the lower edge of the fenders on my '39, behind each wheel. Build a small light enclosure, flush mounted, with an amber lens up front, and a red one at the rear. It would sure be more subtle than the radiactive glow of colored neon under the car.....

There was a 55 chevy at the Road agents show that had 3D flames. It look as though he taped off the flames sprayed them with a heavy primer, untaped them, then painted over everything with his final color. The car was all one color but you could see the flames. Sorta hard to explain. This might look cool done on the beltline of your A.

The hood on my '34 looks like that because I didn't sand the old flames down far enough before I re-primed it. A bodyman I AM NOT !!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
